poorgradstudent Posted October 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 10, 2006 thanks! please keep the pics coming... i'm looking into buying a compact digital, so I'm very interested to know how the new d-lux 3 is performing.
tommycrown Posted October 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 10, 2006 Dear David, I used to have D-Lux2, then sold it before D-Lux3. I struggled with the raw reading speed. And, I presume you shoot RAW a lot? How's speed? Is it improved from D-Lux 2? Thanks! Very low in noise of an indoor shot!
davidada Posted October 10, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted October 10, 2006 I am using an older 256 meg SD card and the write speed is a little slow, I need to get a high speed card and see, also Adobe have the new raw plug in for the dlux on line, i found it really good. I have nothing bad to say about the camera yet, but I was not expecting miracles either my biggest regret is that Leica did not include a shoe for viewfinders. Overall the color rendition and image quality have a great look about them, I cannot wait to take some outdoors in daylight at higher speeds. The lcd viewfinder does have a nice feature for adjusting the screen for high overhead shots works great. I think the most important feature for me is not missing the shots when a larger camera would have been left at home, and quite seriously I think a handheld 1/10 wide open would have been a very different looking image with 35mm film- perhaps impossible. SteveYork Posted October 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 11, 2006 I just ordered one of these for my Mom. The dealer advised that these little cameras have been selling very well these last several days. He sold 9 just the other day alone.
hawkeye_a Posted October 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 11, 2006 Hey david, the picture quality looks just fine.I know this issue has been beaten to death, but I was wondering if you could take a picture in low light using ISO 800 or above ? Cheers
neils Posted October 11, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll have mine tomorrow or Thursday. I've never owned a small sensor digital at all, just a DSLR. Other than that 35yrs of silver! Only tonight did I ever pull a print from my wifes little Canon 540 6meg camera. She just looks at them on her computer and e-mails. Really the prints are very nice. If the DL3 is as good and I expect it will be I'll be fine with it. I hope for more and the 16:9 format and 28mm will be nice too. I've already got the latest ACR with DL3 RAW capabilty so I'm ready now.
neils Posted October 11, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2006 I just thought of a question. I have no SD cards yet. I've been very happy with SanDisk in my D2HS. The DL3 will never write that fast but at what point do you think that card speed will make no difference? Are you getting something equivilent to a SanDisk Ultra II or III? Come to think of it is a 2Gig the largest the camera will handle? I haven't found any of these answers in print anywhere. Thanks Neil
tommycrown Posted October 11, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 11, 2006 I have Clux.. and the speed of the card wouldn't really make any differnces, but for those who shoots RAWs from Dlux series or D-series, I would recommend Pro-Max 2.0GB 150x speed! Superlightening fast!!! Product Detail
davidada Posted October 11, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted October 11, 2006 As requested the same studio shot at 400 iso, I shot it also at 1600 and 800 it was really really awfull no amount of post processing would save it. I think the 400 is pretty nice and on down extremely good. Sorry I am incapable of posting such a terrible image as the 800 iso !! Welcome, dear visitor! marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 11, 2006 Thanks for posting, it would be good to see the 800 and 1600 as well... warts and all. Actually, this camera appeals to me as a take-anywhere P&S and it's good value.
davidada Posted October 11, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted October 11, 2006 Just read the book the camera takes the SDHC cards up to 4 gig
Findus Posted October 11, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 11, 2006 Mark, ir appeals to me to as atake everywhere camera, but it's not great value ! As a matter of fact it's frightfully expenisive compare to others, often with better specs too, but still it's a great looker, and it really has a nice satiny touch to it, but great value ..... no I don't think so

neils Posted October 11, 2006 Share #17 Posted October 11, 2006 Question for the original poster. Were the 800+1600 shots you saud were really bad done RAW? And PP didn't "repair" them? As for the cost over Panasonic, it is $100. A far smaller difference than the last round and both cameras now cost quite a bit less than last time too in their earlier versions. I got my DL3 for $60 over the cost of the Panasonic version as I bought it at a store "tent sale". Maybe the software is really different for the DL3 over the Lumix. You get more warranty and I get PS Elements to put in my wifes computer. Sounds good to me for $60 or even $100. What do you guys want to do, make poster size prints and have no trade-off? All digital is a trade off.
davidada Posted October 11, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted October 11, 2006 At 800 and 1600 they were beyond anyones help unless you were into impressionism. Also I just printed a 20 x 40 inch (100 iso) and it looks superb
