Where to get film at good prices

Hi

I'm sick of paying New Zealand prices for film, so am now looking at offshore alternatives. I'm looking to buy TriX in bulk.

I have bought stuff from B&H in NY before. They sell TriX 36s for around 3.95 a roll, but I didn't see in bulk discounts. If know one is significantly better than B and H I will go with them - I've had good experiences with them in the past. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I will be in Hong Kong in around 3 weeks and was thinking I might find film there, but have never had much success there in the past. Any suggestions?

Best

Murray

Couple of things you might want to consider.

1) Bulk load - 100 feet of Tri-X = $50 which, I believe, is around 20-36exp rolls. That would take the cost from $3.99/roll to $2.50. Please verify the # rolls / 100ft. You will have the initial cost of a loader & canisters, but will pay off in the long run.

2) Check out some cheaper films to see if you are satisfied with their results (flickr.com). Freestyle has Fomapan 400 packaged for them and charge $2.29/roll. Check out their web site for other films that they offer:

Hi Peter

Thank you for that. A very good tip. I will track some down.

I hope you are well. Is you daughter in NZ at this point? I forget the details of her travel/study plans, but for some reason thought NZ was in her future. Never did get the MP-3. Went with the M3 instead - super camera.

Hi Murray,

You can also buy it in bulk but the per roll price is so good it is almost a toss-up. I'm a bulk roller myself but I bought this film in 36 exp. rolls.

My kid spent 5 weeks in NZ and absolutely loved it. She's finished her Peace Corps service and is finally back here in Boston applying to graduate schools and working at Harvard's School of Public Health. It's wonderful to have her back!

Love the sound of that M3... :)
