Kent10D Posted November 22, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) From the demo video I get the impression that this software is capable of isolating the subject and blurring the background *as a single plane*. In other words, can it do the gradual transmission from sharp to blur that a lens does naturally? The way the image progresses from the in-focus plane to the most out-of-focus plane is, for me, an important criterion for good bokeh. Boken gradation, as it were. Can this thing do it? sdai Posted November 22, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 22, 2008 All Leica needs to do is adding a maker's note in the EXIF: "Certified by Leica. Photo taken with a genuine Noctilux." But hey, EXIF can be faked too. LOL
neelin Posted November 22, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 22, 2008 1:45 on the video is where I had to choke down the vomit. ...and saw stars... and the price of Leica glass comes crashing down...sell...sell...sell... robert
Guest malland Posted November 22, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 22, 2008 Someone should have told him that bokeh is pronounced "boké" not "bow-kö". But then he says "lins" for "lens". Yeah, he loses me as well at 1:45. —Mitch/Chiang Mai Flickr: Mitch Alland's Photostream
Bo_Lorentzen Posted November 22, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 22, 2008 Robert, I hate for you to be stock with a bunch of fast glass, Im always interested in trading a bokeh plug-in for a 1.0 noctilux

Kent10D Posted November 22, 2008 Share #15 Posted November 22, 2008 Looks like the real thing Imants (I really like that image). So is this one (film on the digital forum, sorry) ... but the point is the gradation from in focus to out. I kinda doubt the software can do it convincingly at this point. Welcome, dear visitor! giordano Posted November 22, 2008 Share #18 Posted November 22, 2008 the point is the gradation from in focus to out. I kinda doubt the software can do it convincingly at this point. Clearly it can't - any more than it can achieve exactly the same results as tilting the lens. But precisely for this reason it looks like a useful tool for commercial photography, where it's an easy way of getting the whole of the subject in sharp focus but everything else well blurred. Make the exposure at f/11 but make the background look as if you'd used f/2. I don't think I'll buy it myself - but I wish I'd had it in 1972. diogenis Posted November 22, 2008 Share #19 Posted November 22, 2008 It's just what the commercial says: get a cheapo lens, take an easy photo using high F, apply the tool... who will ever know? sigh... Precisely the right tool for the financial crisis. Exactly what an M user should avoid...
Guest malland Posted November 22, 2008 Share #20 Posted November 22, 2008 You're right: the M-user should take the most expensive approach to everything — it's not the picture that matters; it's the money spent on the camera. —Mitch/Chiang Mai Flickr: Mitch Alland's Photostream
