leica007 Posted November 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last evening [17th nov] I had gone to Manu Katche's jazz concert at Southbanks [London]. I saw someone using a camera , which was definitely bigger than Nikon D3 and Canon 1ds3. Had lens whose filter size must be above or around 82mm and quite longish. It can't be Hasselblad H3DII or phaseone or Mamiya, because it wasn't boxy like those. rather, it was slightly flatter/ thinner like a Nikon/Canon camera. I have only seen photographs and youtube videos of Leica S2 , but not the real thing. yet, it seemed to me that the camera resembled S2. Since, I was a bit far from the camera person, so I could not have an up close look. by the end of the concert, he had gone. So, did I spot Leica S2 ? someone was testing it? If someone else spot something like that at LJF, please try to go near to that guy. IF someone was indeed testing S2 beta/whatever , then I think S2 might have better SNR and higher ISO . the concert was a good event to test light sensitivity: ISO and white balance in a mixed light condition. PS: The Manu Katche Band was superb. Full of energy and vigour, and quite edgy. Their next album, if it comes out as they played last evening, will be different from Manu's other albums. Advertisement Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Hi leica007, Take a look here Leica S2 at London Jazz Festival?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tomasis7 Posted November 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2008 why not? S2 has to be tested properly before it meets "M8 so called fiasco by amateurs" lol For me Jazz and Leica S2 sounds as a good combination if it is true
peterv Posted November 18, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2008 I saw someone using a camera , which was definitely bigger than Nikon D3 and Canon 1ds3. Enigmatic... The S2 is said to be smaller than the camera's you mention. This picture was shown during the interesting webinar hosted by David Farkas last saturday evening... Welcome, dear visitor! sdai Posted November 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2008 Could be the MX format Nikon ... their CMOS sensor is perfect for low-light venues like that. Just my guess.
leicar7 Posted November 19, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2008 Bigger than the N or C bricks is not an indicator of an S2, unless it was mounting a motor. The naked S2 is smaller and lighter than the Japanese models. At the recent LHSA meeting, the motor attachment was a nonfunctioning mockup, which is not to say that what was witnessed couldn't have been one. peterv Posted November 19, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The S2 with batterypack will have the same size as a D3 at least. Indeed, we'll have to wait and see the exact difference in 3 dimensions and in weight (and image quality...) As for the size with batterypack, I have 'high' hopes for the S2
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 19, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 19, 2008 Let's clarify here the battery pack is a option on the S2 with a vertical release. The D3 there is no option it is what it is.
