marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #101 Posted October 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) And I thought Guy was busy on this forum until I've just waded through the 34 (and counting) pages of the M8 bible on Fred Miranda. 15000 posts! I'm in awe.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 11, 2006 Share #102 Posted October 11, 2006 Yes Mark i put a lot of time into this business and i get e-mails all day long for help. But i really enjoy it. I think I missed my calling a little should have been a teacher. I like to learn and love to help if I can. Just wish my slow season would end soon. marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #103 Posted October 11, 2006 You certainly get the prize for the most eager prospective owner! With your DMR experience, that has to be a good omen! I do feel we're in limbo-land now, waiting for the camera, not 100% it's going to ship on time, no images to play with... Come on Leica, throw this old dog a bone... marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #105 Posted October 11, 2006 My 35mm 1.4 Lux just came . WOW these lenses are about the sweetest thing i ever seen. So small and smooth. I want more. Well, there's 18 in the range, so that's 1 down, 17 to go and then you can move on to Zeiss and CV LOL. So what's next, 24?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 11, 2006 Share #106 Posted October 11, 2006 I am leaning to 15,24,35,50 Or 21,28,35 and 50 Someday a 75 apo
ho_co Posted October 11, 2006 Share #107 Posted October 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The clearest frame lines is the 28mm and with a 1.25 magnifier and lenses above it would be great. The magnifer 1.25 almost works with the 24 but there is some cutoff without glasses , with glasses forget it not going to work. Guy-- The main advantage of the magnifier is to magnify the focusing patch and increase focusing accuracy. But the focusing accuracy of the M8 is already much more than adequate with the 24 and 28 lenses; therefore, the magnifier isn't needed with them. Longer lenses, particularly fast ones used wide open, will benefit from the magnifier's increased focusing accuracy. So again, when you look at it, Leica has put together a well thought-out system. (Suppose that's why it's seeing a rebirth now after having been around more than 50 years?) --HC

Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 11, 2006 Share #110 Posted October 11, 2006 The widest focal length to be able to see the frame lines and up from there . 28mm worked very good
Bob Ross Posted October 11, 2006 Share #111 Posted October 11, 2006 Never BOB, i would not know what film to buy. LOL I do have another question. I am such a pain, sorry. With Diopters, yes this old fart can't see for a hill of beans. Does the Diopter fit inside the eyepiece , would you unscrew the eye piece than fit inside. Than you can still use the magnifer. i noticed my vision was blurred when I ws playing with the M8 . The DMR has that built in Hi Guy, I use a diopter on my M6 and have another one on my M8 order. The diopters screw into the eyepiece and they do sort of restrict your view of the widest frames, but not as much as when wearing my glasses. I think the viewfinder has a native correction of -0.5 and the frames are set as though they were at one meter. I would presume that you have to remove the diopter to put the magnifier on, as there are no second set of threads. I was hoping for a built in diopter correction, but it would have added bulk. I think the diopter is the most expensive lens....price/weight or price/# of elements that I have purchased:rolleyes: Thanks to everyone for correcting my senior moment about the M8 viewfinder mag. And Guy, on the external view finder, that new finder is the only one with frame lines and parallax correction (manually). I was talking to Eric at Tamarkin and he told me that he had a chance to meet the woman who designed the new finder. She started in her teens with Leica grinding lenses, went to school and is now in the design team. Bob
sean_reid Posted October 11, 2006 Share #112 Posted October 11, 2006 I will say this , I found it much more comfortable the second time around and my hands went the right way and it was easier to see and work plus it had the grip on it. For me that is a must have item, rig up a hand strap and would be happier than anything. Love handstraps Hi Guy, You know that I discussed this in the review but that grip really does make a big difference for a person with larger hands. I don't normally buy grips but on this camera it's a must for me. Cheers, Sean
marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #113 Posted October 11, 2006 I think the camera protector with its bumps is going to be interesting too, though it will seriously slow you down when changing the battery or memory card.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 11, 2006 Share #114 Posted October 11, 2006 Not sure i never been without a grip in 35mm. The M7 with the grip was really nice

sean_reid Posted October 11, 2006 Share #116 Posted October 11, 2006 Yea I was just thinking of leaving it on there was my initial thought until I cant see the frames lines as I get wider Hi Guy, Are you sure that you could easily see the 28 mm frame lines with the 1.25? I doubled checked my notes again and when I tried the M8 with that accessory, the 35 mm frame lines were the widest I could see easily (and I don't wear glasses). Cheers, Sean

Unfortunately, they didn't have the heart to tell her her design was the ugliest design ever in case she had a weepy moment.... No wonder it's being discounted with the lens. Welcome, dear visitor! marknorton Posted October 11, 2006 Share #119 Posted October 11, 2006 Sorry--"camera protector with bumps"??Does it have another name? --HC HC - I think this is an attractive option - certainly worth €79 to give it a try.
