Considering jumping from Nikon D200 to Digilux 3

Hi,

Three frames per second is plenty fine for most "normal" instances. I usually take at least three images in rapid succession even if no play is going on. Someone is usually in mid-blink and looks stoned. I have had fine results shooting kids at soccer matches, though I am still such a novice optimizing speed, ISO, aperture and focus. The problem that I have with taking a long series of images is selecting the one or two to keep.

My biggest problem with this camera (as noted by others) is the auto focus in low light conditions, but the pros way outweigh the cons.

Kevin, thanks for sharing that. It definitely gives me a better sense of what the d3 would be like in real life situations.

Does anyone have the 14-150 lens? It seems to be on backorder at BandH and not really carried by anyone else. Is this lens discontinued? Are there other telephoto zoom options that would utilize the same type of aperture ring as the Leicasonic lenses?

How is the performance on this lens?

I thought I was settled on this issue but I am still vacillating. I think if the D3's startup and shutter are quick enough to take pictures of my kids, say around 1/250 without too much delay in the 3fps, I am willing to give it a try.

I don't intend to shoot races or sporting events. About the speed of kids playing will be the fastest shooting time I will need to cover. For all you D3 owners, what has been your experience in these situations? Also helpful would be your thoughts on the AF. Thanks

If I were to use a canon camera as a gauge, the most direct comparison would be the canon 10D/20D/30D and the Nikon D100.

FPS of D3 is more or less equal to these three. The D3's startup is quicker vs the 10D and not that behind the 20D/30D, given that it has to activate the sensor cleaning mechanism first.

For AF, I'd say it comes close to the 20D/30D, equal to the 10D, and better vs the 300D to the 400D.

As I said, DSLRs beyond early 2007 will outgun the D3 in terms of AF and FPS.
