VIOOH Cleaning?

I recently purchased a VIOOH viewfinder. Cosmetically it is in excellent condition and it works very well but the interior is a little hazy. Is this simple enough for me to take apart and clean or would I just screw it up?

Well, gotta go clean the house :)

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hi,

If you are handy with jeweller’s screwdrivers and tiny screws, it should be a simple procedure. I have cleaned a few of these. Care should be taken when removing the screws on the back plate, so that you don't mark them - use a correctly sized screwdriver.

Once you remove the four screws on the back plate, the optical system will become accessible. If I remember correctly, there is a plate with a flat spring which holds the whole prism assembly in place and it is just a matter of removing it, cleaning and putting together again. There should be no surprises and no springs flying out not to be seen and found again……

Before proceeding with the disassembly, use Q-tip and clean the recessed front optics and the rear eyepiece - these often get dirty and further cleaning may not be necessary.

Good luck,

Jan

Thanks very much Jan. I do have the jewelers screwdrivers and I'm pretty good at fixing things. I tried cleaning the exterior optics but did not use the Q-tip approach. Its good to know that there are no microscopic springs to take flight across the room.

Jan,

I followed your advice and it was, as you said, a simple procedure. It turned out to be very easy and boy what a difference it made. My viewfinder is now much brighter than before and is dust and streak free.

Thank you,

Ken

Hi Ken,

Glad it worked out. I have re-surrected quite a few VIOOH's - all it takes is about 10 - 15 minutes and the finder is like new.... Well, almost like new....

Best,

Jan
