yan1212 Posted November 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) A small experiment.. I took a few close-up shots of a stall full of antique wooden fonts on Portobello Road this morning. I shot these wide open @ f2 ( Of course the 50 Summicron acts as 100 when mounted on the Digilux 3 due to the x2 crop factor) and went as close as I could until I got a fraction of the image in focus. My main concern was to test the DOF, bokeh and sharpness. Also, what seems to be the main issue; focusing on the relatively small viewfinder of the Digilux 3. I have to say that after a few weeks of shooting, it is now very easy to focus and get excellent/decent/acceptable results. It just takes some getting used to. Other than this, the R glass produces very nice results with a very smooth, film-like quality. It is also surprising how small and tidy the Digilux 3 feels without the massive (compared to the R 50/f2 lens) 14-50 Vario Elmarit D lens. All of these shots are ISO 200. I played around with White Balance while shooting, to see what variations I would get. Feedback is more than welcome (be it positive or negative:D ) as is advice from users with experience in using R glass with the Digilux3. Bo_Lorentzen Posted November 10, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2008 Add a KatzeyeOptics.com focusing screen, it will give you a split-screen focusing aid, the way we always used them on SLR's in the old days. makes focusing much easier. yan1212 Posted November 10, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted November 10, 2008 Hi Bo, I have been thinking about a Katzeye screen. I suppose in the back of my mind, I have been holding on for the R10 and do not want to spend in upgrading the Digilux. Does the brightness treatment produce a noticeable difference? rsolomon Posted December 24, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2008 Has anoyone actaully changed their focusing screen in the Digilux 3, if so does it interfere at all when using the kit lens ? i alternate between my various r lenses and the kit lens .... i would like a brighter and easier to use screen for r lenses.....
