gonzo Posted November 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello I hope that I have landed in the correct thread for this question. I recently bought a beautiful Leicaflex SL with the above lens. There were several filters one a skylight (the other a cheap polarizing). I've got the skylight (B+W) on the lens for the time but I prefer a UV for my B&W. My question is: do I need to hunt down one of these filters specifically the series 6 or can I forget using the filter ring and use a new B+W UV instead? I am having a tough time finding one (Leica/Leitz) but would welcome and suggestions or advice. Thanks!

sender Posted November 5, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 5, 2008 Any series 6 should fit. For B&W, the difference between the 1A and UV should be barely perceptible. Enjoy your SL.
gonzo Posted November 5, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted November 5, 2008 Hi and thanks. I think what I am wondering about is if I can use a threaded B+W filter rather than trying to hunt down the correct series filter (which is really difficult) and use it with the filter ring. I researched a bit and found the specifications for the "newer" Summicron lenses take a screw-in type filter E55. I imagine that this isn't the case with the older lenses that use the filter ring to secure the filter and am curious as to the correct filter size. As far as the skylight I read and have been told that the 1A adds warmth though it does act as a UV filter but that it is more for color photography rather than B&W. Is anyone familiar with this?
