M8 + Sb800

I plan to use a SB800 with the M8 this weekend

I believe I have to put the SB800 in Manual mode...

In M mode I can set the aperture but then the SB800 gives the reach of the flash that corresponds with the strength set, correct?

Is there however also a possibility that I copy the aperture I use on the M8 on the SB800 and that the flash than determines the required strength based on the distance it measures with its IR sensor?

(A-mode)

Does this work with the M8?

(I can't try now, have borrowed the camera to someone)

Easiest is to set the flash to A mode and dial in the ISO. You can then use the SB800 to select the aperture you want to use. If you select a smaller aperture (higher number), the SB800 output power will be higher for a given subject but the range will be less. If you select a larger aperture (smaller number, the output power will be reduced and the range increased.

Of course, you have to set the aperture on the lens to match what the flash is set to, unless you want to apply exposure compensation.

You can of course use to tilting head and/or zoom; I find I get the best results using the diffuser clipped on the front.

sorry, I can't answer but I have an SB800 I have never thought to use with the M8. If you figure this out will you post your findings please? (I seldom use a flash with the M8 but imagine using the sb 800 especially with an add on slave might be worth while)

Figure what out? The SB 800 works very well on the M8.
