phovsho Posted October 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Howdy again So the person I bought the m3 off has the following for sale, all in chrome: 50/2.8 (original) - some scratches on the front element. I am told this is from cleaning. $330 90/4 elmar - the black vulcanite/leather (?) around bottom has been lost but mechanically and optically mint. $240 135/4 Hektor - mint $450 If I take them all - $840 I know nothing of these optics, being they are from another time... The reviews suggest they are somewhat marginal performers, and slow. I don't have anything longer than my 75 lux. I generally like fast lens but that need not be a problem here. I have 1, 1.4 asph, a 2 in 50 already - but all black. They could be a nice M3 set... What do you think? Murray
Advertisement Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Hi phovsho, Take a look here ANy thoughts on this lens combo? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leitz_not_leica Posted October 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2008 So, you are going for camera fashion? Don't bother...not only are they marginal performers, they are too expensive, unless you are talking about some other currency than the USD. Remember, the vulcanite on the M3 is black and will match-up with the black lenses you have.
phovsho Posted October 30, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 30, 2008 Thanks. "Going for camera fashion" - fair comment, and you are right. I think a 90/2.8te is all I need. Cheers M
peter_n Posted October 30, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2008 they are too expensive, unless you are talking about some other currency than the USDMurray lives in New Zealand so these prices are presumably NZD. If they are the USD price would be about 0.6 of his quoted prices.
richam Posted October 30, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2008 50/2.8 (original) - some scratches on the front element. I am told this is from cleaning. $330 Are the scratches straight or zig-zag? If the latter, it may be fungus. Either way, you are likely to get some unwanted flare or softness.

I would just buy some film and start enjoying the results from what you have. I personally don't see any justification in fast lenses with Leica optics because they perform superbly wide open, in fact they are designed that way unlike inferior quality Japanese lenses that need to be stopped down because of a quality issue. I have never found a need for anything faster than Summicron optics using 125 and 400 asa and Kodachrome 64 asa. Don't forget Kodachrome II was originally 10 asa and photographers managed perfectly well with that
