DavidStone Posted October 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) No sign so far on the Leica site of any performance proofs for the D-Lux 4. Is there anywhere that I can download a RAW file from this camera, or even a good JPG? I'd really like to see what it's capable of, on my own screen, at full size, and preferably try processing an original RAW file. David
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hi DavidStone, Take a look here D-Lux 4 Performance Proofs?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sdommin Posted October 27, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2008 You won't be able to process a RAW file yet, unless you own a copy of Capture One 4 (the version that came on the CD with the D-Lux4).

mhoersch Posted October 28, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 28, 2008 *.RWL? What kind of a RAW format is that? I thought Leica had adopted the DNG format...
herbet Posted October 29, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 29, 2008 *.RWL? What kind of a RAW format is that? I thought Leica had adopted the DNG format... unfortunately, they didn't. it's a proprietary format and also different form what's implemented in the Panasonic LX3. georgio Posted October 29, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometimes I get a bit irritated by all these different RAW format. This has nothing to do with Leica of course. My gear is an Olympus E1, D-LUX 3 and Epson RD1. For all three I need a different RAW program; I am about to get the D-LUX 4 so that will be another software. Geo
stunsworth Posted October 29, 2008 Share #8 Posted October 29, 2008 If you want a consistant RAW format run all the files though the Adobe DNG converter.
Ruhayat Posted October 29, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 29, 2008 If you want a consistant RAW format run all the files though the Adobe DNG converter. Another vote here for Adobe DNG. Works well with both my D-Lux 3 and Olympus E-1. Never tried it with the Digilux 2, though, cos I never use RAW on that camera.
Westerwald-Leica Posted October 29, 2008 Share #10 Posted October 29, 2008 During a Leica Akademie training we had the opportunity to explore the D-Lux 4's potential and were very pleased. I'd be happy to post some images in jpg. Is it also possible to post RAW? As far as I know you will need Capture One to view and edit it and it probably wouldn't be visible when posted here ??? stunsworth Posted October 29, 2008 Share #11 Posted October 29, 2008 Is it also possible to post RAW? No. Even if you could, the pixel dimensions and file size would be too large for the forum.
mhoersch Posted October 29, 2008 Share #12 Posted October 29, 2008 If you want a consistant RAW format run all the files though the Adobe DNG converter. Can you do that with the RAW files from the D-LUX 4?

sdommin Posted October 29, 2008 Share #14 Posted October 29, 2008 Can you do that with the RAW files from the D-LUX 4? Not yet. You'll have to wait for an update to the DNG converter. Hopefully, it will be the next update.
DavidStone Posted October 29, 2008 Author Share #15 Posted October 29, 2008 David, Not art, but RAW Index of /d-lux4 God Fornøjelse Bo Thanks for that, Bo. I've looked at the jpg's but I can't read the RAW format with Capture One v.4.0.1. I assume it needs 4.5, which gave me a lot of trouble, so I scrapped it. For some reason, the jpg files don't look quite as good as I expected, judging from the enthusiastic comments from other owners that I've seen here. Maybe I'm just being extra fussy. And Bernd wrote: >During a Leica Akademie training we had the opportunity to explore the D-Lux 4's potential and were very pleased. I'd be happy to post some images in jpg. Is it also possible to post RAW?< I'd certainly like to see these, even as jpg, but in full-size, rather than the reduced images that we can post here. For large files, it's possible to use a service such as Pando - https://www.pando.com/ David
herbet Posted October 29, 2008 Share #16 Posted October 29, 2008 David, Not art, but RAW Index of /d-lux4 God Fornøjelse Bo these are very sharp. can you let me know the color settings. is it standard? I'm finding the greens and blues too saturated like the ones from the LX3. I find the Panasonic crayon-like colors too off putting. the Leica is supposed to have a more natural look. xrogers Posted October 29, 2008 Share #17 Posted October 29, 2008 Mac users can try Raw Developer to examine Dlux-4 files (Iridient Digital, IIRC). Change the extension from ".rwl" to ".rw2", and Raw Developer will convert them for you (watermarked unless you pay, I think---even watermarked it should be good enough for evaluation). Or just buy it. Raw Developer is easily worth the price, in my opinion. The converted RAWs from the Dlux-4 are pretty impressive. Until later, Clyde
