Ruhayat Posted October 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently acquired a 50mm Summicron-R (E55) lens for my Olympus E-1 camera. I share the first pictures here for anyone who might be interested in using Leica R lenses with an Olympus camera. Thank you. Pix 1 to show detail, sharpness and colours. Pix 2 & 3 to show low light capability (light source is a single 11w energy-saver bulb in an uplight overhead). Pix 4 to show bokeh and sharpness. Pix 5 is the completely gratuitous shot of the newly-birthed kitten which I'd been thinking was mice making a nest in my kitchen shed.

Ruhayat Posted October 27, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 27, 2008 Last 2. Sorry the photos are so small: apparently, Mac OS X calculates file size differently from this LUF photo uploader -- OS X tells me these photos are about 220k each, just under the permitted size for LUF uploads. Yet when they have been uploaded the LUF upload info screen tells me they are actually only half that size!

robert_parker Posted October 27, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2008 Ruhayat Congratulations on the new lens, which is one of the best around There's plenty of detail in the images and the low light shots look fine - I particularly like the last shot, of your new kitten
Ruhayat Posted October 29, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted October 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, Robert. I'm really enjoying this lens -- breathtaking in its detail and crisp colours. I suspect the E-1's 4/3 and 6-megapixel sensor is not taking full advantage of the quality, but the Leica shine still comes through. With the third-party adapter, it is cheaper than a brand new Sigma f1.4/30mm, though you'd lose the autofocus and extra stop. Highly recommended for stills and posed portraits! M. Valdemar Posted November 1, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 1, 2008 Your pictures are awful. Hardly a ringing endorsement for either camera or lens.
Ruhayat Posted November 1, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted November 1, 2008 Meh. You're one of those who'd much rather prefer shots of rulers and barn doors, I'm guessing?
M. Valdemar Posted November 2, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 2, 2008 You say they are "breathtaking in detail and crisp colours". Are you kidding? They are out of focus, poorly exposed, and blown highlights in one. Do you have any ability to self evaluate? Seriously. How could you call those photos good? Ruhayat Posted November 7, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted November 7, 2008 Here are some real world samples using the camera and lens. These were taken at a poetry reading at a club in Kuala Lumpur. All f2, between 1/30 to 1/8 handheld.
Ruhayat Posted November 7, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted November 7, 2008 You say they are "breathtaking in detail and crisp colours". No, I said the LENS is breathtaking in detail and crisp colours. The photos are what I said they were: test shots. Are you kidding? They are out of focus, poorly exposed, and blown highlights in one. Wow. You have really sharp eyes, and an extremely higher resolution monitor than mine, to be able to judge stamp-sized images at 72 pixels.
Ruhayat Posted November 7, 2008 Author Share #13 Posted November 7, 2008 These two were taken at a recent gathering of friends.
