gurtch Posted October 5, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all: I currently use a DSLR. My work is 99% seascapes. 99% of the time I use a monopod, IS lens and polarizer. I often also use split ND filters. I will be using the M8 for completly different types of work, e.g. light weight travel, bike riding with camera, walking around town looking for the "decisive moment", covering the local comm'l fishing boats and crews, etc. However, there may be that time where the perfect sky presents itself, and only a polarized shot will do, and I have the M8 with me. I used to have a Leica swing out polarizer that I used with my Contax G2, but I sold it on the bay, when I went completly digital. I found and bought a unique solution for polarizers for use on the M8 which should work even with ultra wides (21mm and 24mm for example). It is a series of adapter rings of different sizes (39mm, 46mm, 49mm & 55mm ) that screw into a large ring that is "vented" all the way around. This ring accepts 77mm polarizers. It is called "Filter View". It's rather expensive for what it is, but it's USA made, of very high quality, by a small shop, and fills a definite need. I have nothing to do with the firm, but the item should be a hit with M8 (and other RF owners). It can be seen here: Accessories from PhotoEquip Regards Dave G Home

ho_co Posted October 6, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2006 Dave--thanks for the link! I hadn't heard of these folks, and it looks like an innovative solution! --HC
albertknappmd Posted October 6, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 6, 2006 Not so fast.... I ahve used the Filterview for years and find it to be difficult at times. The filter holder and the adaptor rings are difficult to unscrew or even attach to themselves and to teh front of the Leica lens... why? Because the manufacturer refuses to work with brass. Aluminum bends and this makes the filter holder and its adaptors more prone to getting stuck toether. Also, one can have great difficulty getting the adaptor to latch on to the lens... I will eventually get the B&W BRASS adaptors and just be left with the aluminum filterview filter ring but this is not an ideal solution. I would avoid purchasing this product until the manufacturer realizes that he should use brass.

Thaks Albert. I just thought it was a neat idea. I must confess I have not as yet used mine. And thanks for the tip. If I have trouble, I will buy a brass ring for my most used lens thread. Best.....
