MacPro Book & Epson Pro 3800

I wonder if anyone can help by providing some advise.

Following frustrations with Vista (stupidly I upgraded from XP Pro) I have recently started to convert to Mac and have so far been very happy. However, I do have a problem with connecting the printer.

According to the Epson Pro 3800 manual, in order to get into the 'detail' sceen for the printer parameters (the screen where you can select Color Management, 2880dpi, 1440dpi etc.) you go to 'Applications' and double click on Epson Utilities 2. At first, when I did this 'Utilities 2' didn't seem to find a printer. (Utilities 3 did record the fact that the printer was connected.)

I then reloaded the software and now when I double click Utilities 2 it takes me into a screen calibration screen.

Does anyone know if you then perform a screen calibration, does the Utilities 2 take you into the printer parameters screen?

I've been reluctant to try this as I have paid to have the screen professionally calibrated.

The printer works of a fashion, it is just that I cannot get into the parameters screen to set everything up as I want it. (At the moment I'm having to 'process' on the Mac and then transfer the files onto Windows to print ..... not ideal.)

I hope the above makes sense and that someone can throw some light onto my problem.

I use the same printer on a Mac. I don't have my Macbook with me at the moment, but from memory there's a drop down box in the printer driver - i.e. when you are printing - that gives access to the various selection panels. I'll have a proper look this evening when I have access to the laptop and get back to you if the question hasn't been answered properly.

When the print dialog box opens, there should be a blue arrow to the right of the printer name, pointing downwards.

Click that, and other parameters should be revealed (again, I am not at my Mac at the moment, but that seems familiar)

With regards to screen calibration - this needs to be done regularly, not just once. The Mac comes with a built-in calibration tool that is excellent.

Hi there,

I use the 3800 very successfully with a MacbookPro. I always use Photoshop to print and have HS manage the colour using the profiles from manufacturer of the paper eg. Hahnemuhle. They have in turn instructions for using the profiles—works very well.

If you had screen calibrated, leave it alone.
