milsu Posted October 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) A week ago, on Sunday October 19th, I attended an air show for the first time in my life. It was for free, at the place of Belgrade Medieval city, this year dedicated to pilot Ištvan Kanas, member of the air force acro group "Stars", who died a month ago during the preparations, when he crashed in his aircraft over the Batajnica military airfield near Belgrade. I didn't try to capture the planes, there are so many photos of airplanes, I tried to picture the atmosphere. Maybe not an ideal place, lots of trees and city walls around, but unique locality. My favourite MiG-29. He silently jumped out from the right corner, and then I'll never forget the sound of that engines, just like a million thunders in each part of a second. And an actual size crop. Gazelle taking off, after it was exhibited on the ground. MP, Lux 50 asph, Kodak Gold 100, f5.6 1/1000s both, Coolscan V ED Hope this time exposure works well, or it shall be myself to blame, not the photo store. Advertisement Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Hi milsu, Take a look here Belgrade Air Show 2008. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marquinius Posted October 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2008 The thing about airshows is that EVERYBODY shoots "naked airplanes". So your idea to capture the atmosphere is pretty good! I like the first shot, as it indeed depicts people attending the show. What makes it special, is that mostly these shows are held on empty fields. The walls and small tower givee it really the idea of " an outing". Te helicopter made me think of "naked airplanes" at first, before it hit me that a) you evidently can just walk about during it's descent and this is still not an open field. Not bad for a first airshow! Marco
milsu Posted October 29, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted October 29, 2008 Thank you, Marco. It's kind of difficult to picture naked planes with 50mm lens, but that wasn't my intention as I said. Although I could got some close shots of aircraft in the air if I knew the right place to stand, but this was my first time, I didn't know what will be the routes aircraft will be using. The helicopter was displayed on the ground. I spotted it when the show ended, and I came closer ti picture it. It was a hard job for the pilot to clear the inquiring crowds.
