Who's using PS CS4

I continue to be impressed with the advances in CS4. I keep discovering new aspects that are quite useful.

Also, I have found some videos on the Adobe website that do a good job of introducing new features in CS4. Take a look: http://tv.adobe.com/#vi+f1584v1005 is one of them. From there, you can navigate to other videos that might be of interest.

It's interesting to hear from the other side of the pond about high prices-- when I was in England in summer 2007 I distinctly recall looking at a Diet Coke and wondering if it was REALLY worth $5.

That's because "summer in England" is something special you have to pay extra for :D

Well I took the plunge and bought PS CS4 upgrade. There was a post over at DPR for a 15% off coupon so I got the download for 169.15.

Seems to be workinig Ok so far. Like this version of bridge better and it seems they fixed a Bridge Cache issue that has bugged me for years. With CS/CS2/CS3 I would get Cache overflow, or so I call it, where when I was in one folder looking at images when I clicked on a thumbnail of one image a totally different image would appear in the preview pane not even in the folder I was viewing. Something that I had taken months/weeks/days before.

I'm still waiting for my spanish upgrade to CS4, but having observed the multiple possibilities that the new Camera Raw 5.1 offers, I ask myself if it would be a silly (or good) idea to joint a C1 file open in jpeg with a followed edition in Camera Raw 5.1? Have you tried this alternative CS4 owners?

If you can find it :D :D

CS4 seems much faster than CS3, and Bridge is now actually useful. There isn't much else to commend an upgrade unless you like the less fussy screen. There is a lot less screen clutter and that does encourage me to use this version. CS3 filters seem to work OK.

However, I doubt I'd pay for the upgrade personally (my copy goes through the business)

Unfortunately I've had to upgrade to CS4. I was perfectly happy with CS3, but I recently changed platforms after my PC crashed (again!). Adobe informed me they didn't change over old software so I would have to pay for the upgrade and made me fill out a form stating that I was changing platforms and wouldn't use the old CS3 somewhere else and then fax it to them before they would send out the new software.

Not sure if it is faster. I think it really depends on what video card you have, and of course the speed of the main CPU.

I just ran into a problem with CS4. With my 2+ year old NVidia 7000 series video card with 256MB RAM and using the newest NVidia drivers one of the cores on my C2D CPU would be MAXED out when I had the Open GL feature of CS4 turned on. Even when I was doing nothing in PS.

Once I turned that off the CPU usage went down to nothing when I wasn't doing any adjustments in PS.

Yes the new Bridge seems to finally be a useful program. I always like using Bridge over any other program for viewing and sending images to PS but It always seems to crash.

With Bridge CS4 I haven't had this problem at all.

Just downloaded the CS4 upgrade. Now I'm off to reorganize my workflow once again.

Now that ACR 5.2 has adjustment brushes like Lightroom 2, has anyone noticed an improved performance in ACR vs Lightroom when using these?

Never really cared for Lightroom, although I've had it since it's original release (hoping it will turn into a program I'll like to use), so I don't do many adjustments in it.

I do use bridge as my main viewing program and for sendinig images to ACR/PS.

Still getting use to the added adjustments in ACR.

My new computer would not download CS4! So I still don't know anything about it

What a pain this has been. BTW, I had to go back to a PC! The iMac refused to recognize some of my images along with other problems so I returned it. Adobe is sending me the CD and hoping it will do the trick.

Not sure what you mean by download? Do you mean Install? Or actually downloading the program from the Adobe website.

Adobe does make this slightly difficult because you first have to download and install some type of downloading program, a downloading manager program from Akamai Technologies. Then they give you 2 links to choose from. The real program, CS4, and some extra Goodies (as Adobe calls them IIRC).

I had to actually call Adobe to find out why I could not download the program. Then I realized, even though I am very computer literate, I was the one making the errors.

To top it off the downloaded version comes as a .7Z ("7"ZIP) file. This is some new to me compression program that my normal UnZipper program could not read. I then need to download and install the new 7ZIP program to actually extract the program so I could install it. All very frustating when all I wanted was PS CS4.

The only saving grace was this time around, I guess because I didn't get a CD sent to me, Adobe didn't charge me tax or shipping. Which with all previous programs I have bought from Adobe they did charge me tax and IIRC even those that I downloaded.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble. I called Adobe customer support at least three times that day!
