I give "most folks" credit for not being that naive. now here's the drastic reverse in market trend. Will Leica slash price by 18.75%? They didn't cut prices when they were publicly-held with a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders, and on the verge of bankruptcy. But Dr. Kaufmann is a smart cookie, so once the collectors have filled their glass cases with the latest gear, and sales drop to nil, he might decide it's in his own best interest to come down from the ivory tower and price things realistically for those of us without oil wells in our back yards. The increase in the dollar against the € will yield a nice little windfall profit for Leica. I remember back in the mid-1990s', when the dollar ruled supreme, when Leica had a $500.00 rebate program in place for anybody who bought an M6. A friend visiting from the US, bought a new 50mm Summilux ASPH from a dealer for approx. $2600 once the VAT here in Norway was deducted.
