wolfess Posted October 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I was recently given a Panasonic DMC-LC1 camera with 2 batteries. I bought myself a Panasonic battery charger and a memory card and went home. After charging the battery, I put it in and the camera turned on, requesting 'memory card'. I put the memory card in and shortly afterwards the camera just died. All the lights went out and nothing worked. I tried the other (charged) battery and still nothing happened. I don't have a plug to camera lead to plug it directly into the power, but just wondered if anyone had had a similar experience with this camera and whether there was anything at all I could do? Hopefully, Steph

lesh Posted October 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2008 It doesn't sound good, but you never know, best case would seem to be that the batteries you were given are both faulty. Try it with a new battery, if that fails it looks like you'd need to ship the camera to the Panny repair outfit in Illinois. If you can get away with just buying a new battery that's obviously the best option. It's a great camera and worth a bit of time and effort to get it going. Good luck
Paul Edwards Posted October 19, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2008 Hi I had a similar problem when I purchased a battery but all I found was that for some reason it was not making contact so I put a small piece of card between the battery and the battery cover . This seemed to do the trick and I have not had the problem since.
Arman Posted October 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2008 I experienced this too with my Digilux 2. It happened after the camera had shown symptoms of a failuring CCD (which I didn't know then). First it was overexposing then underexposing and after a while it wouldn't start up at all anymore. Just totally dead. I also suspected the battery at first. I then sent an email to Solms (Leica Germany) and they told me to send it to them. After a while I got their answer that the CCD had failed and that they had replaced it with a new one (for free, extended warranty). Panasonic has also extended warranty on the CCD I think. Your problem could very well be the CCD. Do you know if it has been replaced earlier? It is a very common problem to these camera's. Someone else in this forum has listed the serial numbers of these camera's with the faulty CCD. Good luck! These camera's are very competent so make sure to use the extended warranty if it is the CCD which is failing!
elansprint72 Posted October 21, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2008 HiI had a similar problem when I purchased a battery but all I found was that for some reason it was not making contact so I put a small piece of card between the battery and the battery cover . This seemed to do the trick and I have not had the problem since. Me too; picked up a cheap battery from H-K and it was 1mm shorter than the others, bit of card stuck on the end where the battery catch goes- works fine. wolfess Posted October 23, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted October 23, 2008 Hello everyone. Thanks very much for all your advice! This was the place to come. I am off to fiddle around with batteries and card and failing that pursue the warranty thing, although not sure that will be any use as I didn't buy the camera originally....I'll feed back once I've tried these things out. Many thanks Steph
Phileica Posted October 23, 2008 Share #7 Posted October 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the camera really dead - or is it only the display on the back - you can switch it on/off thanks to the "dispaly" button - who knows? regards - phx
