Ludwig Gretch Posted October 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just back from a week in Malta, - the first outing with my 'new' M2, the Velvia has gone to the lab. and I eagerly await results!. Generally I love the camera, and it's handling - but for one point, most of my cameras have a +2 dioptre correction, and I could really use one on this M. Looking at the Robert White website recently......l thnk they were listed at around £60!!! - this seems a heck of a lot for one small piece of glass!. These things were a common stock item in the days of 'real camera stores', can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative, or supplier?, I assume it's just a matter of unscrewing the eyepiece and changing the lens? (looks to be about 12mm dia.) Cheers, Dave.

I think (don't know for sure) that the early M cameras (some not all) have a different thread even though the diameter is the same. I had a M3 briefly and, needing a dioptre, got one and had to exchange it for one with a different thread. The dealer (a Leica specialist) was a bit vague about the differences, but at least he had what I wanted. It fitted the same as the modern M, i.e. added to the existing eyepiece. If your camera takes the modern thread, the Asian copies could be used. I have read of people with M3s who just used a modern one off the shelf.
