jrc Posted October 7, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted October 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got back to Minnesota from LA, and when I was there, I had time to kill and regretted not taking the M8, but I had a lot of stuff to carry and it was just too much trouble. Now, it seems, I have to go back next week; I decided I'd take the M8 no matter what, and to do that efficiently, I went out and bought a small, lightly-padded Tamrac bag intended (I think) for a P&S. I can get the M8, four lenses stacked on their sides in foam bags (WATE, TE, Nocti, 75 Lux), three batteries and whatever I need for memory cards in the bag. The bag, in turn, fits snugly in my travel rucksack, so I can carry it on with the laptop, and still carry the usual in-flight and travel necessities (sunglasses, prescription medicine, cell phone, headphones, pads and pens, etc.) It weighs a ton, but isn't very big, and I only have to carry it until I retrieve the rolling luggage, and then I can pile it on top. Biggest problem is that stupid charger, which goes in a side pocket of the bag, but it's really a waste of space... Â Not a bad solution overall, though. I'm still undecided about taking the Frankenfinder; I don't worry that much about frames, just usually make sure I have enough room, and then chimp...win some, lose some... oronet commander Posted October 8, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted October 8, 2008 Would you mind naming the model of Tamrac bag?
Shootist Posted October 8, 2008 Share #3 Â Posted October 8, 2008 Simple stick the charger in your check luggage. No need to carry the charger in the same bag as the camera. It's not like you will need it on the plane or anytime you are walking around with the camera.
dpattinson Posted October 8, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted October 8, 2008 I used to do the same with a Hadley Small, however now I use a Hadley Pro and use it as my 'small' carry-on bag with a backpack for other stuff. My 13" notebook fits in the space between the insert and back panel of the Hadley Pro very nicely. Â When there was a one-bag limit, I could fit (just) the Hadley Pro inside the backpack for getting past security and then pull it out afterwards. Guest ww@lt Posted October 8, 2008 Share #5 Â Posted October 8, 2008 I got the Tenba Messenger Large, which is now my standard Laptop bag. It has an insert large enough for a decent set of leica equipment. Â Now I can take my M8 with me on all my business trips ! grober Posted October 8, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted October 8, 2008 Here's another vote for Billingham's Hadley Pro. Good for any M-body plus up to three lenses with extra filters, battery, memory card and such. Mine is green and most often by my side. I like it because its quality-made and doesn't broadcast, "Camera inside!" Â -g
buckhorn_cortez Posted October 8, 2008 Share #7 Â Posted October 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I carry a Lowe Pro bag with all support "stuff" - charger, car charger cord, lens cleaning kit ...etc. Â The problem I had was a field bag. I went to WalMart (only place around in the little city I was in) - and found a padded bag in the "digital photo dept" made by Samsonite - in China (of course, but isn't that where all the good stuff is made?). Â It has a zippered main closure, two zippered padded outside pockets on either side, a zippered inside pocket on the top lid (lens cloth + SD cards), two inside padded pockets, zippered outside pocket on the front face (more SD cards, batteries, lens brush). Â I can put: M8, 75mm Summicron, 28mm, 35mm, WATE + viewfinder (in its case), 2 extra batteries, 10 SD cards, small lens brush. Cost $16.99.... Â I switch lenses around between lens pockets inside the main compartment as I change lenses. The "T" shaped area made by the two inside lens pockets is large enough to accomodate the camera with any lens on it - including the WATE w/finder. Â The bag is physically about the size of my Hasselblad 500CM w/ PME finder + 50mm Distagon. Â The total Leica kit weighs 6lbs 1 oz in the bag. gwelland Posted October 8, 2008 Share #8 Â Posted October 8, 2008 Check out the Think Tank Urban Disguise 40 or 50. I've ended up with these bags after a journey through Billingham's and various other shoulder bags. Â I can put 2x M8's, WATE + FF, 28/2, 35/2, 50/2. 50/1, 75/2, 90/2 & 135/3.5, plus Franken Powerbrick and a full complement of bits of other stuff in the Urban Disguise 50. For a single camera and a few lenses the smaller Urban Disguise 40 is great.
