There is a triangular hole underneath the dot, and the dot itself is made from very thin aluminium, so if you press exactly in the middle with something pointy (don't let it slip!), one of the edges should bend up and you can peel it off. Leica apparently does it like this.

 

If this sounds too brutal to you, you can do what I did, and alternatingly push counter-clokwise and clockwise with a wooden match or toothpick, by pressing on the L and the a, until the glue gets tired and lets the dot fall off. This took me 15 minutes...
