In David Farka's we find an image with a nice typo by Leica in it.

Well, is the R10 based on the M7 (german line) or the R7 (english line). Just a typo? Imagine a live view M camera and there is no need for a mirror reflex R10 camera. You could put R glass on the M and focus with live view. This would also be a good reason to strengthen the M system - Leica did that in the last two years - while not yet introducing the M9. I think we have a 50:50 chance of an M/R reunion in the near future and an even better chance of a real merger within the next 4 years.

Read out a 37 Megapixel sensor with live view is probably not coming in the next couple years, meaning that the S2 makes sense for the time being. How could Nikon and Canon react? They have no medium/large format camera, no lens line up like the M glass for a 35 mm FF sensor...

Maybe it means the R10 will de developed in cooperation with Minolta/Sony :) Just like the R3 and later Rs until the R8 were based on early development with Minolta on the R3 and R4.

that is not such a nice thought..I have a hard time equating the r8 with minolta.. and I would rather not have a sony/r10..

Te more i look,i really dont think its a typo, afterall that is an R7 camera in the case!

The typo discussion is just a hint.

Rangefinder as well as reflex cameras are just two quite popular workarounds for distance measurement and framing in photography. Even more classical is focusing on the ground glass - still done today. Live view requires no extra finder, shows the image on the sensor and is the solution for many problems that frustrated people for decades. Focus shift, exact framing, exposure control, depth of field visualization, etc. would be possible at ease. This is not imagination, the Panasonic G1 is there - nobody will talk about flipping mirrors for "live view" with focusing in the near future, that is just like using wide angle lenses that work with mirror lock up only.

Probably possible, but impractical and expensive.

Robert

-If you have both M & R lenses you save $ because the upgrade in the back is 1 for two & it is more possible to have a backup for both systems.

-More M users would be more inclined to buy 1 or two R lenses (100 macro or a 180/2.8). No need to have another camera.

-More R users would be more inclined to buy 1 or two M lenses (21/1.4 or a 24 Elmar).

-The optics(viewfinders & lenses) never change and are used for a long time. (old prewar M lenses are still appreciated for their unique qualities) so your investment in lenses is protected.

I could even use it as a "pocket point & shoot" with live-view, cv15 & no viewfinder.
