M8 Firmware 2.0: Exposure correct at last

On my two M8 bodies I routinely dialled in -2/3 EV Exposure Compensation because I got overexposed images if I didn't. After updating one of my bodies to firmware 2.0 all user settings were reset to factory defaults, as has been reported by many others. When I recreated my user settings under the new firmware (using my other body's menu as a guideline) I naturally dialled in -2/3 EV Exposure Compensation.

Imagine my surprise when I got underexposed images!

So, I set my body with firmware 2.0 to EV +- 0 and left the other with firmware 1.201 and EV -2/3. Using the same lens on both bodies I got identical images.

So, at long last, with firmware 2.0 the M8 gets the exposrue right without compensation.

And zooming two steps out when you want to zoom one step in is also gone.

Nice.

And about time.

I'd like to hear about more discussion &/or testing on this. My user profiles are set to -1/3, & I've noticed no underexposure since changing firmware.

Either (a) the difference isn't very noticeable when set to -1/3, or (B) there really isn't any difference between firmware versions in this regard.

We can guess that we may need -1/3 EV when firmware choose 160 or 320, and +-0 EV when 1250 or even more 2500.

I did have highlights slightly over exposed at 160 in sun, with +-0 EV. Right exposure in a Cafe at 1250 or 2500.

Dilemma. Have to find the right bracket and circumstances of use of Auto Iso.
