carstenw Posted October 1, 2008 Share #21 Posted October 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) One look at Bush's face is enough to anticipate a disaster... Yes, this will be bad news for all the small camera manufacturers. With Dr. Kaufmann, Leica actually appears in better shape than many others. I hope this crisis doesn't hurt the MF companies, or other specialists like Kodak and Ilford/Harman.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 1, 2008 Share #22 Posted October 1, 2008 It just is not good here and will effect the world too. All we all can hope for is a turn in all this. Let's just hope that happens for all of us sooner than later.
Fotobug Posted March 6, 2009 Share #23 Posted March 6, 2009 Still confused..... So if I understand it, Leica is/has focused the development of the S2 camera/system towards professional photographers. From what posts I've read here, a lot of contributors take this to mean the top boxes from Canon and Nikon, and the digital back folks. What if find disturbing, because I have not seen it addressed yet, is how Leica thinks it has a prayer of competing in this market if it does not intend to play the same game, i.e. camera/system marketing via sales + leasing + renting to pros. Or does Leica only want to market the S2 to professionals who can willing to flat-out buy $20K USD. I am not joking, or trying to be facetious. Furthermore, a concentrated effort to market the "professional" market would suggest to me that Leica has spent some time considering *servicing* their new very demanding clients. I have read so many complaints about the turn-around time on Leica analog and digital equipment that makes me what S2 users will have to anticipate. Remember marketing via sales + leasing + renting? And then this brings to mind how many S2 bodies do you think Leica will or should produce and deliver in the first year to successfully gain a toe-hold in this MF market? I would be very curious to hear from some of the members who actually make their income from photography with Leica equipment.

thrid Posted March 6, 2009 Share #25 Posted March 6, 2009 My worst fear is that Leica may actually hold off the release of R10 even when it's ready just because they want to sell more S2. Who was expecting a S2 anyways? ... not me. I don't think there will be a conflict. The R10 will be a lot, lot cheaper than the S2. They aren't aimed anywhere near the same market segment. carstenw Posted March 6, 2009 Share #26 Posted March 6, 2009 1.5 fps means you can shoot @ 3 frames per 2 sec Guy.If you need to wait 1.5 secs for a frame, then that means you need 2 frames per 3 secs= 2/3 frames/secs = 0.75fps, which obviously is a lot slower than 1.5 fps I love this calculation: 2/3 = 0.75 Makes my day. Fotobug Posted March 6, 2009 Share #27 Posted March 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why don't you think they'll lease or rent? That is my question. Even some recent postings by Guy and Riccis talked about different service and warranty programs that may be made available. Have you seen Leica information about vendors leasing or renting the S2? If Leica will allow the system to be available for lease and/or rent, then that might help calm the nerves of a lot of posters that have talked about the gut-wrenching thought of the financial pill to swallow if end-user purchase is the only avenue of acquisition. stunsworth Posted March 6, 2009 Share #28 Posted March 6, 2009 Have you seen Leica information about vendors leasing or renting the S2? No, but that doesn't mean that it's not going to happen. Guy and David don't work for Leica. They only know what they've been told. It's already possible to lease an M8 and lenses for example. I know of at least one photographer in France who does this. I can't see any reason why the S2 couldn't also be leased.
stevelap Posted March 6, 2009 Share #29 Posted March 6, 2009 On this occasion perhaps a shame that this older thread was resurrected, as we already have David's 'S2 Demo' thread (and his blog) and Guy's 'S2 and my impressions' thread. Any chance of the mods closing this one in the interests of clarity and ease of browsing?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 6, 2009 Share #30 Posted March 6, 2009 Agree Steve this maybe confusing and I even thought twice of starting one but thought others that where at PMA could tag on.
