R serial number discrepancies

Howdy gang,

 

I've recently added 2 used R bodies to my arsenal, an R-E and R4s MOD. P; both are in excellent condition. While checking the serial numbers with the production lists available on the web, I found both to be listed as either a different model or out of the production time frame. Since the serial number is stamped on the bottom plate, It's obvious that should the bottom plate have been replaced at some time, the serial number could well be from a different body. So, my question is, is the serial number stamped anywhere else inside the bodies of the R4-R7 series? Or can Leica Service verify the serial number.
