pgk Posted September 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just picked up a 40mm Summicron. First I should stress that it appears to work fine - focus is ok, apertures work well and it is optically great and appears nice and sharp. However, I noticed that the aperture index does not align correctly with the top centre when mounted on the camer. Further investigation reveals that the entire lens assembly including the aperture actually rotates (it is not what could be described as loose at all though - actually quite stiff) and is clearly not quite as tight as it could be in the focus assembly. The index isn't exactly where it should be either - it appears slightly too far to the left if viewed from above. Can anyone suggest whether this is a problem which is likely to worsen and so needs rectification and whether it is a simple problem to rectify (DIY or repairer)? pleeson Posted September 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 28, 2008 Remember these lenses are made up of several sections that thread together. I don't think you'd need to worry, but perhaps, if you're brave, you could back off the visible screws a bit, realign and retighten. On the other hand, you might send it in to someone who actually knows what they're doing!! I still remember the shock when the front element screwed out with a filter on a 35mm Summilux -- but then just as easily reassembled...
