aphoto Posted September 17, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi could someone write about the differences between the D lux 4 and the D lux 3. I know they are both called compact digital cameras and believe they both have 10 megapixels and fast lenses. thank you, aphoto
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Hi aphoto, Take a look here new cameras from Leica. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Thawley Posted September 17, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2008 I have the D-lux 3 and love it. If there's enough incentive in changes, I'll happily upgrade to the D-Lux 4. Of initial intriquied is the add-on view finder... and hot shoe for the optional flash head. While I'm fairly understanding of the noise at higher ISO, I would have like to seen an attempt made at improving this. But, the camera is sooooooooo much fun. I'm sure if some money makes its way back to my side of the table, I'll be purchasing one. JT

John Thawley Posted September 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2008 sorry I meant to say D lux 4 and C lux 3 , the ones just announced Well, I have the C-Lux 2 also. LOL This is a tiny camera. I don't know the differences of the C-Lux 3 over the 2... but I can tell you, the C lux 2 is a nice little camera. But it's little. Obviously, the file size is smaller than the D-Lux. Ruhayat Posted September 18, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2008 I think the main difference would be: do you want a camera you can even put into a tight jeans pocket, or not? When I considered the D-Lux 3 to the C-Lux I decided to buy the former. I have since regretted the decision: the C-Lux would have made a more practical travel companion to my Digilux 2 instead. But if it were my main or only camera, then the D-Lux would probably suit better than the C-Lux, due to the slightly better image quality, RAW capability and manual controls. adan Posted September 18, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2008 D-Lux 4 - has 3 formats that are all 10 Mpixel (no cropping): 16:9 panoramic HCTV shape, 3:2 "35mm" and 4:3 digicam. Lens focal range stays the same with all formats for the same reasons (24-60) C-Lux 3 has one format D-Lux 4 has 2.5:1 zoom range, but is f/2 to f/2.8; C-Lux 3 has 5:1 zoom range ("25-125", but lens drops to f/5.9 at telephoto end. D-Lux4 will handle low light much better. D-Lux 4 has accesory shoe and can use accesory Leica-style viewfinder - C-lux has no shoe or viewfinder except LCD on back. In short the C-Lux is a basis digicam about like 50 others out there - The D-Lux 4 has a lot of unique features shared only with its Panasonic twin, the Lumix whatever. Forgive me, but I don't think that is true. Cropping is involved. I have not been able to find any information to the contrary. C-Lux 3 has one format Again, to the contrary, I think you'll find the C-Lux 3 (like the 2) has 3 formats: 16:9 panoramic HCTV shape, 3:2 "35mm" and 4:3 digicam. stunsworth Posted September 18, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 18, 2008 The D-Lux 3 was based on the Panasonic LX-2, the D-Lux 4 is based on the LX-3. The later camera has a wider faster lens, but the isn't as long as the earlier one. It also has a hotshoe so that the camera can be used with an external viewfinder (it's bigest selling point for me personally). In the LX-2 the 4:3 modes and 3:2 were cropped from the 16:9 panoramic mode, in other words the 16:9 was the full uncropped output. In the Lx-3 that has changed. The 16:9 is cropped from one of the other two modes - can't remember which one. Only one of them - 3:2 or 4:3 is full frame, again can't remember which.
