stunsworth Posted September 19, 2008 Share #41 Posted September 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The leather bag in this link looks identical to the leather Billingham Hadley that I have. In fact I may order one, the old Billingham's looking a bit battered these days, and the pic is from two years ago! Barbour Leather Tarras Bag Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here The Tyranny of Velcro. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kenneth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #42 Posted September 21, 2008 Black is OK but absorbs heat and transfers it to the contents inside hence desert troops always wear a khaki colour which bounces the suns rays away. I have just bought a Billingham 225 in khaki or what ever they call the colour and have just used it for the first time this weekend. A terrific carry and very accessible. I have also just celebrated my 61st birthday which means I can get away with the English Gentleman look. In fact I quite like it and it fits well with my chrome M6 outfit. Doesn't look too pro looking if you know what I mean Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! stunsworth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #43 Posted September 21, 2008 Black is OK but absorbs heat and transfers it to the contents inside... Maybe we'll have that problem next summer. It would make a nice change.
Iron Flatline Posted September 21, 2008 Share #44 Posted September 21, 2008 I've explored all kinds of camera bag sites and forums about camera bags, but I can't seem to find a decent bag that doesn't have velcro all over it. Is there a camera bag somewhere that has something like the magnet clasp on my wife's Coach bag and purse? I'm looking for a small bag to carry an M with a couple of lenses and then a pocket or two for pen and Moleskine and the like. I have not read all replies here, so this may be redundant. Please reconsider placing a magnet - however weak - next to sensitive electronics.
Fernmelder Posted September 21, 2008 Share #45 Posted September 21, 2008 No connection, but you can ask at Luigi's. They have some new "belt" bags for Leica M and will also make stuff according to the input of the customer.
alifie Posted September 21, 2008 Share #46 Posted September 21, 2008 I have not read all replies here, so this may be redundant. Please reconsider placing a magnet - however weak - next to sensitive electronics. I would not worry about magnets close to electronics, about the only thing that could be affected by one is magnetic storage and even then it would have to be very (very) strong. jschone Posted September 21, 2008 Share #47 Posted September 21, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just buy a bag "to taste", take some padding out of those old lowepro/billingham bags and create your own custom bag. I just bought a nice leather "Jost" bag and I will ask some old lady here in Rome to sew the padding inside. tip: take the a4 size bags, so you can also put some documents together with your camera. Doesn't look too pro looking if you know what I mean I have a Hadley Pro, a 335 and a 550, all in tan to help avoid heat absorption during hot weather. I like the look of the tan, personally. IMHO, Billinghams look more like luggage than camera bags, sepecially in tan. I loke the Fogg bags too - but golly Wally, they are expensive!
Pangur Ban Posted September 21, 2008 Share #49 Posted September 21, 2008 Barbour Waxed Leather Tarras Bag B9006 Designed for carrying either dead salmon, or dead grouse (pronounced gryse); contains absolutely no Velcro , or anything else invented during the 20th century. I've been using mine for about eight years, still looks new, unfortunately. I expect it to look lived-in in about 20 years time. Absolutely the best bag for everything. Keeping the wet fish away from the camera is a good idea, but they will take a brace of pheasant, plus an M and a couple of lenses too.
kenneth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #50 Posted September 21, 2008 Maybe we'll have that problem next summer. It would make a nice change. It was hot and sunny in Scarborough this weekend so I was pleased I had chosen to buy a khaki Billingham bag. Re your comment on Barbour bags. Why would you want a fishing bag to carry a camera in? it has no padding or protection for valuable camera equipment. It may be fine for a brown trout which is what the bag is made for and also the Barbour brand is a little hooray Henry when away from the river bank. Barbour make superb Egyptian cotton waxed jackets, I would not be without mine

kenneth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #52 Posted September 21, 2008 Because you can fit a Billingham Hadley insert to provide the protection. But by the time you have gone to that expense you could have bought a dedicated camera bag like a Billingham 225 which for my money is a far better made bag and ideally suits an M system, from my brief time spent with one

Barbour make superb Egyptian cotton waxed jackets, I would not be without mine The Barbour bag is strong, weatherproof and made of quite thick leather that cushions the internal contents. I mainly use mine as a commuter bag, containing my laptop and work documents and it protects them well. At other times, it works well as a camera bag, though I usually keep spare lenses in their own cases. The bag itself is unobtrusive and does not carry the Sloaney connotations unfortunately associated with the jackets, for example.
stunsworth Posted September 21, 2008 Share #54 Posted September 21, 2008 But by the time you have gone to that expense you could have bought a dedicated camera bag like a Billingham 225 which for my money is a far better made bag and ideally suits an M system, from my brief time spent with one I already have the insert. As I've mentioned, and shown, above I currently use a leather Billingham Hadley bag as my M bag - and have used it for about 7 years. The Barbour would be a direct replacement for that. I already have a black 225 that I use for the SLR kit. I prefer the Hadley for Ms. The handles on the 225 are useful when carrying it around, but I find they get in the way a little when using the bag on the shoulder. I realise that this is a personal thing,
wildlightphoto Posted September 22, 2008 Share #55 Posted September 22, 2008 Black is OK but absorbs heat and transfers it to the contents inside quite true, I'd avoid black camera bags. hence desert troops always wear a khaki colour which bounces the suns rays away. Off topic, but black clothing if loose fitting is cooler because it absorbs heat radiated from the body instead of reflecting it back to the skin. If it's loose fitting, air circulation will carry the heat away. Desert troops wear khaki color because it blends in to the desert environment. Agent M10 Posted September 23, 2008 Author Share #56 Posted September 23, 2008 The Artisan and Artist bag is just perfect. No velcro at all - zippers with leather fobs. I don't see where black would be an issue with heat - the inside is red cushion. I can't see where the red insides would cause any problems at all for my black MP.
