ckli Posted September 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I got his lens with S/N 21784xx, I believe it's the first version as it takes the Series VI filter. However, when I mounted this lens on my Leicaflex SL body, it doesn't couple with the metering system. i.e. turning the Aperture Ring doesn't move the 'round-headed' needle inside the viewfinder. I am sure the camera body works fine as I don't have this problem with my other 2 lenses: Summicron-R 50mm and Vario-Elmar 70-210mm Zoom. My questions are: 1) Can this lens be used on the Leicaflex SL Body? 2) If it can be used on the SL body, does it mean that my lens is defective? Any DIY type of fix I can apply or anything I should check? Many Thanks! Regards, CK
Advertisement Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Hi ckli, Take a look here Elmarit-R 1:2.8/35mm question?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 30, 2006 If this is a 3-cam lens, IIRC, they don't work on SLs (but on all later Rs they're fine)
ckli Posted September 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted September 30, 2006 Hi Andy, Thanks for the quick reply... Please excuse my ignorance, I don't know how many cams are there. itn Posted September 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2006 According to your picture, it seems that the second cam is missed and with your Leicaflex SL, you definitly need to have the second cam. The first cam is a blade shaped cam which can be seen at the bottom of your picture. The R cam is a blade with notches which appears at the top of your picture. The second cam is a blade shaped cam which shall be placed at just outside of R cam, however it is missed. Therefore, your lense is equipped with first cam and the R cam. ckli Posted September 30, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 30, 2006 Hi Iwao, After reading your post and examined my lens carefully, your analysis is indeed correct, the 2nd Cam is missing and therefore, it won't work with my SL body. Guess I need to cantact Don Goldberg to re-surrect this lens. By the way, the link you provided in your post is the best I've seen so far, in terms of explaining the Lens Cam with clear illustration. I've bookmarked your link for future reference. Thanks very much again to solve this mystery for me! Regards, CK
tobey bilek Posted September 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2006 Someone modified a a single cam for R series and did not add the cam for SL/SL2. The cost would have been double for no use if they did not own an SL. I have done this myself.
