atournas Posted September 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Could someone kindly confirm that lithium-ion batteries ( with no "memory" effect) that Leica uses in its digital cameras do not require prolonged charging time when charged for the first time? Advertisement Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hi atournas, Take a look here Charging lithium-ion batteries for the first time. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted September 10, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2008 Paul, I have always seen these batteries come with a partial charge, both for D2 and M8. Are you asking if yours is taking too long to charge? A few hours wouldn't be too long, if that's the case.
marknorton Posted September 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 11, 2008 Just take them through the normal charge cycle which is programmed into the charger. You may find the battery capacity increases a bit as time goes by but they are not like NiCads with their memory effect.
atournas Posted September 11, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted September 11, 2008 Thanks, guys, It seems that lithium ion batteries do not need prolonged charging for their first time--only the NiCd units required so. Paul
roberth Posted September 12, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2008 Li-ion batteries must be stored charged which is why they come charged. It is best to charge the battery directly after use and store full. You do not have to fully discharge the battery before charging, it is best to top up as after you have used it.
