Kodak Sensors

Does anyone know what other camera manufacturers use Kodak sensors ? I notice that Kodak lists 6 CCD & CMOS sensors that are manufactured for photographic application. sensors range from 5.0MP to 39MP

Hi Peter,

Older Olympus 4/3rds bodies, E-1, E-300 & E-400. Oly has moved to Matsushita/Panasonic for sensors. Sensor diagonal is 22.5mm.

Leica DMR & M8

Medium format backs

I don't know if Kodak has their own sensors in their P&S cameras.

Best I recall:

Phase One and Hasselblad use Kodak sensors. Leaf, Mamiya ZD, and Sinar use Dalsa sensors. The Phase One versions of Mamiyas use the Phase One Kodak chipped backs. Megavision, if they are still in business, used the Dalsa sensors.

The funny thing is that Kodak owns Leaf. I guess that shows how small a market these backs are if Kodak doesn't even bother to put their own sensors into their own backs. Maybe they were contractually aligned with Phase One and Hasselblad before they purchased Leaf. But that was more than 3 years ago.

Phase One has also turned to DALSA with their latest offering.

Regarding Leaf, Kodak's CEO probably didn't even know about its existence when they bought Leaf's mothership Creo with an eye on the pre-press market in 2005, who cares? they were a big company.

They no longer build digital cameras either, the factories in Japan and China have been sold to a Singaporean company Flextronics.

Stock price dropped almost 50% in the past 52 weeks, they're soon to be irrelevant.

Up to 50 MP actually; the Hasselblad H3DII-50 uses Kodak’s new 50 MP CCD. Hasselblad uses Kodak CCDs exclusively while Phase One employs Kodak CCDs for all backs and cameras except in the recently announced 60 MP model, which will be based on a Dalsa sensor – most likely because Kodak doesn’t offer a sensor larger than 49.1 x 36.7 mm yet (they will, in 2009).

It was very noticeable at Photokina 2006 that the Kodak pavilion/booth/stand (pick your term) was pretty much deserted compared to the frenetic activity over at Nikon and Canon; even Fuji had some interest but Kodak was a like a ghost town...

It has to be said though that Kodak’s camera business (that was taken over by Flextronics) was and is largely independent of their sensor business. When everyone out there ordering sensors happened to visit the Kodak booth at the same time, it would still be far from crowded.
