edhohoho Posted August 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am an amateur and newbie to rangefinders but am really enjoying the use of my rangefinder camera and have recently been interested in some lenses that are no longer in production. Specifically, I am looking for late versions/high serial numbers of the black Leica 50/1.4 Summilux-M pre-ASPH E46 and Leica 35/1.4 Summilux-M pre-ASPH in mint condition with original packaging and accessories. I have been trying to find them on the usual places like eBay, rangefinder forums, and some online stores but with no luck. Do you have any recommendations on other places or people I can try? Is it just a matter of timing? I'd be interested in tips that collectors might have. Although I am by no means a collector, I appreciate having things like lenses in nice condition because they are so expensive as it is and I like to use them while at the same time take good care of them. I'm located in the US, so I would prefer to deal domestically although I am certainly open to reputable sources abroad. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and recommendations. Sincerely, Edmund
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Hi edhohoho, Take a look here Where do you go to find rare, hard-to-find lenses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted August 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2008 I don't know about the situation in the U.S., but there are reputable and reliable dealers who specialize in second hand equipment. To see what such dealers can offer, see e.g. http://www.leicashop.com/ whereof I have personal experience of the good kind. Now, if you are out after really RARE lenses or bodies, and are willing to spend Big Dollars, then you have to go to the auction sites (one such, Westlicht, of Vienna, is the other side of the dealer above). http://www.westlicht-auction.com/ Both sites by the way are multilingual. I am sure that U.S. members of this forum can direct you to the proper net addresses. The old man from the Age of the Screw Thread
Leitzmac Posted September 4, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2008 Dear Edmund, I agree with Lars, those are two fantastic resources, I have bought a fair amount of gear from both the shop and the auction, Peter Coeln runs a great business and his staff are very knowledgeable. I would also look at Fogg Camera Bags (US), Schouten Select Cameras & Accessories! (Netherlands), Foto Hobby Rahn: FOTO HOBBY Rahn GMBH (German). Keep looking on Ebay too, they do come up! Also, I can't say more here (as I am new to l-camera and not sure whether it would contravene the rules of the forum) but I strongly advise you to keep a look out on the buy & sell section of this site over the next few weeks if you're interested in gear from abroad... Hope that helps. LM
Leitzmac Posted September 4, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2008 Not sure why Tamarkin came up as 'Fogg Camera Bags' - very strange!
jpattison Posted September 4, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 4, 2008 Hi, Fogg bags are great, and made in France. Check their stockist link for distributers around the world, but not the UK, unfortunately. Any UK distributers looking in? Fogg Specialist Bags - photographic bags and camera cases Enjoy!
