Ruhayat Posted August 25, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm only asking because someone is offering me a Panasonic L1 with R adapter and Olympus zoom lens. I was thinking of getting it to be used mainly for portraits and events (since I can't afford an M8 yet), with either the Leica R 60mm Macro or 28mm. If I do get it, my Digilux 2 will be retained as a B&W street camera, along with the film Zeiss Ikon I also have. Any comments and insights would be most welcome and much appreciated. Cheers. Advertisement Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi Ruhayat, Take a look here Would you buy an L1 for US$350?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
audidudi Posted August 25, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2008 I'm only asking because someone is offering me a Panasonic L1 with R adapter and Olympus zoom lens. Assuming it works properly and isn't stolen, that's a pretty good price. Actually, you'd be lucky to find a body for that price, let alone one with an R adapter and a lens, so it's a bit better than a good price...

Do you have any other Four Thirds cameras and lenses? You can get an E-510 (with about three million more pixels) for just a bit more. Or, get a new E-330 on EBay Item number: 130249711808 New is good. New is warranty. Plus the E-330 has a fold out screen which the L1 does not. Very handy. nrj Posted August 25, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 25, 2008 I recently bought a R28/2.8 and an adaptor for my L1. The combination is easy to carry, reasonably good to focus, aperture priority and the built in flash work very well, and the pictures come out really well. I print to 22x17, colours, and tonality are excellent. Nik

MJLogan Posted August 26, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 26, 2008 I'd buy it, but it would be a backup body for my Digilux 3.
Ruhayat Posted August 26, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted August 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks very much. Now I think I will definitely get it. Mainly cos I'd like to have a bit of that bokeh lovin' for portraits that I got on a D70 with 50mm prime lens. The D3/R60 samples I have seen in the Photo threads are just superb (kudos to the photographer, of course)!!! Plus, the controls are similar to the one on my D2, and I really, really like those manual controls more than a typical dSLR's. The price is right -- the guy was originally offering it for US$500 but couldn't get a buyer. For this price I could get a used Nikon D70, but I find the dials fiddly to use. I decided not to get a new Olympus for the same reason. Thanks again for the feedback.
Ruhayat Posted August 27, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted August 27, 2008 Alas, I was too late -- the camera's gone to someone else. But while in the shop I had my hands on an Olympus E520 and it felt so nicely weighted compared to the E420 and other small dSLRs. Shame about the menu system (maybe they should move towards manual dials as well), but it's a tempting alternative just to be able to use some Leica lenses, for sure. And some of the E520 sample images I have seen do a good job of mimicking Fuji Velvia film...
