i have downloaded the new lightroom, and played with it a little. i have not concidered previuosly the lightroom as working software since it was not finished anyway... but now it deffenetly gets its form..

it is cool, looks great and now seems to match or really compite with the aperture (one that i also dont use).

i have a mixed feelings about those new softwares :-))))))

aperture is still a better manager, but lightroom is a better image processor.

but i dont like the too modernized, too "animated" stuff in both software. they are not a real "REAL TIME" processors, like photoshop or silverfast for example... after two images i have tried from my dlux2 i was anoyed with the way it works.... true - my computer here is not the last world (the last powerbook g4 15 with full memory etc, but no much to the new macbook pro or new big macs).

but still - the directness and the power of photoshop or silverfast are far more rewarding for true image editing.

the curves in lightroom is not really useful like on photoshop and silverfast - i think curves is mandatory for really good output. there are nice things in the BASIC MODE window - the black/exposure/recovery/contrast... and additional grey tool but that is it.

sorry... for serious work - the photoshop or silverfast are far better even if they dont look so cool as lightroom (and aperture)... but the images made with silverfast and photoshop look cooler - so that is what counts :-))))))

what is your impression about the new editing softwares???? lightroom is defenetly one of the fronters of moder softwares here :-)))

Vic

Lightroom I like as I work on RAW files visually and not by numbers, it is a pretty intuitive application plus I can send B&W stuff into Lightzone and back again. I have about 8 libaries on different external Hard Drives and Lighroom copes well( Iam not a organised person basically shit for brains in that department)

Lightzone great for B&W work especially from scanned from film ( no wet darkroom for this little duck) Regions and Zone mapper are great

Raw Developer (mac only) I get great results from my D2 9RAW files)as tthis raw developer has great colour rendition plus a LAB colour curves tool.

CS2 The LAB colour space ( here I work by numbers), I can use Alien SKin Exposure all the other possibilities and the FUN and I mean FUN STUFF I am playing with autochrome possibilities for now until I get bored and that doesn't take long.
