Hello,

After lurking around these parts, I finally took the plunge and bought the last Digilux 2 (replaced sensor) from Tony at Popflash. Cosmetically, it is a 7, but it shoots fine.

I am soooooo happy with the camera. I bought it primarily because I was so upset with the quality of the shots I was getting from my Casio Exilium Point and Shoot of my new son, Leo.

Here are the results with the D2:

Picasa Web Albums - Nathan - Leo @ 2 Months

Thank you for all of the tips from the great users on this forum.

Also, I just bought a Heliopan 69mm UV Filter on ebay for $71.21 and there is one left at this price from:

I'm sorry to hear the condition of your camera is just a "7", as the one I bought from him is a solid 9-9.5 ... it looks nearly new, in fact. That said, you've purchased a great camera, so use it as intended and don't worry too much about its condition.

Another question:

Is it worth it to get an optical viewfinder?

I noticed that the Ricoh GV-1 is recommended since it is 4:3,

however many users also have a 28mm Voigt or similar.

I like how the chrome Voigt 28mm would look on the camera, but I am concerned that the framing will be off.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do not think so. Some people complain about the electronic viewfinder, nevertheless, you can use the magnification mode while focusing. I use manual focus in almost every case, and it works fine. Moreover, the EVF gives you exactly the image you will get on your photograph.

The Digilux 2 is all about the EVF. I liked it. Focused manually with the EVF but would keep my left eye open to know precisely "when" to shoot. External viewfinder? Nah. If you really want to skip the EVF in certain situations, chimp using the back screen. Just my opinion. Have fun with your new Digilux 2--it's a great camera.

Thanks,

Will

Congratulations! Good on you mate. You are the one who got the last D2 from Tony!

I got mine from Tony as well and extremly happy with my D2 even it has some marks and scratches on the body. Beautiful pictures without spending hours on the computer!

As I used to use Kodak DCS760 for last several years, It's been hard work to convert Kodak raw into TIFF - excellent quality of picutures after the hard work but not for everyday photograpy.

I bought a Billingham bag for my D2 and waiting for the delivery. as soon as I receive it, I will hit the road and post some photoes.

Enjoy your D2!:)
