panoramer Posted August 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The universal viewfinder from Leica fit my new camera up. The people on the street are very surprised at that thing. The camera is small and the viewfinder is big. (Photo taken with Camera Leica M8 and Leica 4/90mm Macro-Elmar) Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Hi panoramer, Take a look here new viewfinder for the Panasonic LX3 found. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted August 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2008 Kewl! Question about the LX3: Earlier models always reset to widest zoom position when turned off, then on. Is that the same for the LX3, or can you preset a particular focal length to which the camera will return when turned on? Thanks!
echorec Posted August 19, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2008 Looks cool! Are you happy with the camera?
daveleo Posted August 19, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 19, 2008 ho_co that was an implication of my message in another thread here. i looked and could find no suggestion that the LX3 would startup back at a focal length that the user set (for example, 35mm).... i THINK it always boots to the widest focal length. it would be great if you could set that .... then you could attach your favorite viewfinder and set the camera to startup at that focal length and turn off the LCD as a default setting. personally i MUCH prefer a viewfinder of any kind to the LCD screen which i cannot focus on except at arms length which is absurd. sorry..... i ramble. ho_co Posted August 19, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 19, 2008 daveleo-- Not rambling. I had seen your query but hadn't seen a response, was just hoping to carry on where that thread left off!
rob_x2004 Posted August 20, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2008 Any chance of seeing some images from the camera?
ho_co Posted August 20, 2008 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) panoramer-- Have you run DNG Recover Edges on any DNGs you've created from the LX3's RAW files? I'm curious what the pixel dimensions of the full recovered DNG file are, and what the corners look like. Thanks!
ennjott Posted August 20, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2008 personally i MUCH prefer a viewfinder of any kind to the LCD screen which i cannot focus on except at arms length which is absurd. You should have your far-sightedness corrected then. As I said in the other LX3 thread, these LCDs have to be used from a small viewing distance. They're developed that way, most developers are young and near-sighted if anything. Composing with an LCD is great from 15 cm viewing distance, especially since it also simulates exposure and white balance. I used to say 10 cm but I'm getting older too.. One thing is sure though, before I will use devices holding them at arm's length, I will rather wear thick reading glasses or have my eyes lasered or something. Of course the best solution for everyone would be an optional EVF with a "virtual distance" like a normal optical VF. It could even be put on the hot shoe, getting the image data from the camera's USB port, or through a proprietary port (USB would max out at about 640x480 at 30 FPS). I don't know if it could be permanently built into such a small camera..

guidomo Posted August 27, 2008 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2008 (Photo taken with Camera Leica M8 and Leica 4/90mm Macro-Elmar) .. and without IR filter?
Isabelle Lenatio Posted August 27, 2008 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2008 I'v been using it for a couple of days now and the results are very nice. At lower ISO better than my old G9. It's growing on me .... Not really comparable to an M8 but taking the price difference into account and the fact thats this is still a small pas. sensor the results are very pleasing. I have shot some Raws but mostly straight out of the box Jpegs ... nice, small and very responsive. The pro's are 2.0-2.8 and the 24mm wide angle. The short Tele up to 60mm doesn't bother me, but I guess it will put some people off using the LX3 ... use it up to 400 and it will prove a nice small addition to anything bigger you own.
