Screw-Mount Question

If I understand correctly, my newly acquired IIIc is an L39 mount.

When did Leica change the screwmount size from the L39 to the M39? Was it with the introduction of the IIIg?

If I have this all wrong, please tell me.

x

LSM: Leica Screw Mount

LTM: Leica Thread Mount

L39: Leica 39mm diameter x 26 turns/inch

M39: 39mm diameter x 1 turn/mm

LSM = LTM = L39, as used in all Leica threadmount cameras, including the IIIG, maintaining a 28,8 mm film-to-flange distance

M39 = as used by most 35mm and MF enlarging lenses, and some cameras, with a different film-to-flange distance

Best,

I understand that there's less than 0,7 mm in difference between M39 and L39 threads. You should have no problems with a rear cap. I would not tighten it too much though.

Sorry, typo: I should have written 0.07mm, not 0.7mm
