bbp Posted August 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can somebody explain the differences between Leica M4 and M4 MOT models? I know the latter takes a motor drive that is notoriously unreliable but any info above that is hard to find. Does the M4 MOT function without the winder? Are there any quirks making it harder to use than the normal M4 (if used without the motor)? I am considering buying one and using it as an everyday body, would this be a bad idea? Advertisement Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hi bbp, Take a look here M4 and M4 MOT differences. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mooky Posted August 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2008 As I recall, the body and motor are meant and designed to be used together - but I could be wrong, too, I don't believe they had a self-timer. Either way, not many of these were made, and unless it's an 'ugly' conditioned or well used beast - I wouldn't use it - they can be valuable and certainly irreplaceable. Good luck.....I almost purchased one new years ago, and decided against it - they were even pricey then....
bbp Posted August 11, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted August 11, 2008 For anybody else looking for info on M4 MOT. I learned that the M4 MOT body will indeed function without the motor provided that a normal baseplate is included with the package (many times the bodies are sold without a motor). The main difference should be the provision of electrical contacts for the Leica motor, though I'm not sure if there are other differences.
