ian moore Posted August 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a Nikon 5000Ed for scanning positives and negatives. I like to choose my focal point manually in the preview image using the focus tool in the Layout tools. Should I then uncheck the autofocus preferences in the preferences dialog? These include an auto focus option in the Single Scan-Before Scan option and an auto focus option on the Preview Settings- Settings to be applied to Preview. These options are checked by default. My concern is that,if I leave these preferences options checked, the scan operation will simply ignore my chosen manual focal point and automatically focuds in the cente of the image. Thanks. Ian. Advertisement Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Hi ian moore, Take a look here Nikon 5000ed Scanner. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ndjambrose Posted August 6, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2008 Manual focusing will take precedence. In effect the scanner will focus twice - once during preview (or when loading the film carrier) and then once before the final scan. You can speed up the process by unchecking the autofocus options. It won't make any difference to the final image but will save some time.
