sdai, you missed the point....

i *will* buy the panasonic or the olympus if they do it first.... and i don't consider them or nikon or canon to be "lesser brands" .... at last count, my collection is up to 54 cameras of every type and brand (3 Leicas .... though the wonderful D2 is in the shop with a flawed sensor ! ),

... and i'm sure that i made more money last year than you made in your entire lifetime, so you can keep the personal comments to yourself.

regards

So why do you want Leica to rebadge a Micro 4/3 camera when you can pick up one from Olympus or Panasonic for half price?...

There could be an obvious reason for doing that. Since the technical differences between nowadays cameras are not that huge for the everyday hobbyist or better said insignificant for 90% of his photos camera design becomes the more important factor.

Should there be more design differences than the red dot and may the new Leica be the camera that the hobbyist really likes to use because of it's design, it's look and feel, it makes sense to buy the Leica for $1.000 and leave the Panasonic for $700 and the Olympus for $500 in the shop.

Hmm, you've seriously underestimated the worth of the forum's membership ... before you made a statement like this on the web, always think twice - remember this is NOT your 6 foot backyard, you are talking to the whole world. LOL

I'll never understand the bizarre levels of negativity generated by the haters of 4/3. (Or the haters of rebadging, or iPhones, or MS Windows, or any of a thousand other things.)

I bought a 4/3 camera (Digilux 3) because of the excellent PanaLeica lenses and a very comfortable, analog-like user interface. Those factors weigh more heavily with me than MP count, high-ISO performance, etc. I'm happy with my camera and lenses, and delighted with the images and prints I produce with them. But I'm agnostic about the sensor size. I have no specific 4/3 axe to grind.

All along, though, I've wished that both body and lenses lived up to the smaller/lighter rhetoric used to promote 4/3. I've wished for something roughly the size and shape of an OM-1. I'm agnostic, again, about viewfinder technology: an improved version of the Digilux 2 viewfinder would suit me as well as the (admittedly small and dark) OVF in my Digilux 3. I'm more than willing to learn rangefinder as well. As long as I don't have to hold the camera out at arm's length to compose on the rear LCD, I'll be happy. Even my point-and-shoot (the very outdated but still fun-to-use original D-LUX) has an eye-level viewfinder.

I'm excited about the potential of micro4/3. If an EVIL micro4/3 setup gets me what I wish for without unacceptable compromises, woo-hoo! Sign me up! If not, I'll either stay with what I have or learn to use a rangefinder while I save $$$ to buy into Leica's M system.

Swap out my priorities for your own and that's pretty much all that can be said on the subject til a lot more information is available, isn't it?

You guys are really pathetic, lad.

So why do you want Leica to rebadge a Micro 4/3 camera when you can pick up one from Olympus or Panasonic for half price?

Are you really in desperate need for the red dot to cure your inferiority complex because of using a lesser brand?

Work hard, be smart, stay away from your computer ... you can also make enough money to pay for a Porsche, or a Ducati.

I have two Ducatis. Ducati Darmah, Ducati Paso. I have had two Porsches. That's why I know that most people that vociferously defend said brands, despite reliability issue and price inflation to the extent of putting down everything else, are generally shy of height, or something similar. Honda Civics these days are almost as much fun, and don't cost 10000$ in belts, pumps and seals every 60k miles. That's why Leica needs really good middle class priced stuff - as Oly-PanaLeica offers - along with the over priced p____ extender male jewelry cams like the M8 and Rxy. 5000$ manual focus digital RF bodies ... Nuts.

I currently also have a broken collarbone from one of the bikes, which is why, at the moment, I am home watching you make a f___ of yourself talking, as usual, about things you don't know spit about.

Over to you, a__hat Sdai.

Not wishing to butt in on this fascinating conversation on who owns how much of what & their annual/dayly income might be.

But can anyone explain to me why on the one hand we get all excited about the fact that the M8 is not (quite) FF sensor and then start a long discusion on the merits of a crop factor 2 system? Presumably Leica needs to make a compact 25 mm f/0.5 ultralux AF lens to keep our depth of field desires satisfied while they are at it?

when what you should be comparing it too is a 2/3" sensor or less, that has 2 stops less dof control. Just remind me what other choices there are in compacts

That is totally beyond my understanding too ... I have no idea how one's personal net worth could have any effect on a damn camera's technical superiority or inferiority.

At one time, the forum is named as "Leica User Forum" and I truly wish that the tradition could be restored, perhaps a proof of Leica ownership is required before one's membership is approved?

I'd love to spend some of my spare time around with fellow Leica aficionados instead of dealing with trolls following other brands.

OK we need a compact 12.5 mm f/0.25 and a 2/3 sensor.

i dont, you do

F.25 is impossible

you can daydream about the impossible all you like, it wont solve the problem

which is better IQ in compact cameras

The fact that you are here is rather revealing about what you really love to do:eek:

Mostly 110 cameras suffered from LENS limitations. As in, the lenses sucked. That said, they pocket-ability was great and the cams were fun.

And grain the size of golf balls.

But the tiny Pentax 110 SLR was fun...

Riley the suggestion of 12.5 mm f/0.25 was hardly intended as a serious option so lighten up. We come here to have fun.

I agree that a serious compact would be interesting, see my posting here.

Everybody who has talked to me knows that I (almost) never post any pictures on the web, do you really want to look at my pictures?

I'm sure that I don't care about your pictures (at all).

Because both threads were about an identical subject.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure, Andy ... the one I was in was running in peace (with only 3 replies). :p

Ok, I'm done with this one. Andy, you'll need to put a ban on me from stumbling into these Olympus/Panasonic threads.

Cheers!

Re: pocketability, the e420 plus 25/2.8 pancake lens ALREADY fits in my jacket pocket. A body half the depth with the same lens certainly will too; a body half the depth without a mirror box with a thinner pancake lens MIGHT fit in a pants pocket, if that pants pocket is big enough for a DP-1 or a G9.
