AAdobe has announced that Lightroom 2.0 is shipping.

One new capability of Lightroom 2, and also Adobe Camera Raw 4.5, (now available) is that they can now use camera profiles. Concurrently, is the introduction of the DNG Profile Editor, and associated profiles for virtually every raw file format in existence. The new camera profiles and DNG Profile Editor are being initially distributed online in public beta form.

The DNG Profile Editor will only open DNG raw files, but the profiles themselves (including ones created or edited using the profile editor) can be applied to both DNG and non-DNG raw files. These profiles will be able to be used with any DNG 1.2 (new version announced this past April) compliant raw processing software.

I believe that the DMR creates DNG's that are version 1.1. Hopefully Leica will provide a firmware update that will create DNG's that are version 1.2.

Leica won't need to upgrade the DMR files to take advantage of this. If I understand correctly, you don't even need a DNG as a source RAW (so this will work with Canon's CR* files). You simply need raw software that can handle a v1.2 DNG like ACR or Lightroom.

FWIW, whatever Adobe has cooked up (which looks to me suspiciously like PM5s profile creating mechanism; that is, process a GMB color checker chart shot for LAB values) will have to go a very long way to beat the current Phase One and FlexColor profiles for the DMR. If you're not using them, you're missing out IMO.

I agree with Jamie, C1 v 4 and Flexcolor are by far and away better than Lightroom 2 at the moment for DMR DNG processing.

I use L2 as I have another camera for which neither C1 or Flexcolor has profiles so I check every so often with DMR files and it doesn't have the same "bight"!

I have used the adobe profile editor to make my own DMR profiles. While I would have been happier if I could have just used the flexcolor or C1 profiles for the DMR, I was happy to find it quick to make my own as I had already shot a Macbeth color chart with my DMR. My first efforts took all of 5 minutes and did significantly improve color rendering. I'm going to have to work on this a bit more but its really promising.

If you don't mind sharing the profiles, I will be happy to host them on your behalf.

In fact, I would be happy to set up a web page with links to all the profiles that we create and are willing to share here.

To all who have entered the thread please feel free to distribute the profile. I have also added the recipe based on the Adobe standard M8 profile for those who would like to tweak to their taste;Steve feel free to let LUG know & Andy feel free to host as you wish!
