Couple of months, weeks .. ? can't remember we had a pretty good discussion on classical music here on the forum. I must say due too that discussion i have bought some excellent recordings which I would of otherwise never of noticed, so thank you to all the contributors.

But now for a complete different musical direction:

The Bands are called:

- 2 by Bukowski

- Infected Mushroom

- Crystal method

This for the section of... well don't know what to call this musical style, but it's headphone music, it's most certainly got the swing and it's pleasurable monotonous....

Anybody heard of this before, if not try downloading a sample, it is really something different, it' certainly not rap, pop, or any other "popular" thingie ...

Maybe some of you know it and can lead me to some other stuff I don't about ... similar direction that is.

... Getting into the chatty mode, I re-discovered, whilst browsing through my old vinyl albums, Gary Numan .... I did a photshoot with him decades ago, didn't think much of music then, nice guy though, but now I am beginning to like the music too ... Gary Numan that is ... :-)

When I did a Google for Infected Mushroom, they were described as "Israeli Trance Band". I didn't bother to download anything, as they want money (or so it seems). I did listen to a bit of Crystal Method though, and it seems to be along similar lines (assuming I have my dance music categorisations anywhere near accurate that is!).

I know very little about this kind of stuff, but it might be worthwhile checking out some of Kraftwerk's 1970s material for the roots of it (eg Autobahn, Trans-Europe Express, The Man Machine) or The Orb ("Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld" is probably their best album). The Aphex Twin might also be of interest - hover over the "A" for downloads.

Michael, haven't heard of that yet, I will certainly obtain a copy.

I'm not a big movie watcher, Hardly have time to do so, but I do watch Shorter dvd's like the complete frasier set I to V which I really enjoy. As for movies we have 100's of "old" B&W movies with carry grant and so on, these are simply uncomplicated and easy to watch. I just bought the complete set of "Morse" I also like and have, forgot his name but it's the director of Clocwork Orange, Barry Lyndon etc.... apart from that ...

Congrats on the Crystal Method.

I used to play bass guitar in a band many years ago, and have still stayed up with the "alternative", "rock", and "heavy metal" music bands of today.

Crystal Method "Vegas" is so well mixed and has a wide range musically that I often use it as one of the CDs for testing equip / speaker combos.

Infected Mushroom is very electronic/techno and not really my style.

If you like the mid 90's style do a search for the bands Front 242 and Sister Machine Gun. You may like them also.

Best,

Ray

Just put the last coat of primer on a hifi-speaker-set i'm building for a friend of mine.

Creative hobby for a sound-engineer, isn't it.

Well, this forum, Michael is all about gear.

Which we use as a tool.

BTW check "Tool" if you like heavy ( slightly sympho ) rock.

frc,

Thanks for the clarification. Somehow I have never thought of equipment as "tools" It seems a little cold to me. I think of lenses/cameras as image capturing devices/objects.

Pretty romantic, eh?

Did listen to clips of "Tool", seems a little techno. I was going to download them & called my rock & roll 25 yr. old Son as I had never purchased anything through itunes. He told me I didn't want to listen to Tool. He is into "The Flaming Lips" at the momento.

Am personally into things like Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cowboy Junkies, etc

etc. . .

Again thanks.

Sincerely,

Michael Dickey

Hi Micheal,

My Santiago Marin concert guitar and Fender Telecaster electric are treated with the respect a beautiful musical instrument deserves.

The MP and the set of lenses are of the same category.

Definitely more than just tools.

Is a jealous Nikon I hear?

Just jokingly referring to the term mentioning the band.

On moving pictures: what about " Brasil " by Terry What's his name again.

He used to be in the monty python team.

Ah, Gilliam.

regards,

Fr.

Hello frc,

Well OK! "To me, "Brazil" is certainly on the same plane of excellence as "Down By Law" though radicaly different cinemagraphically. I have engaged it many times.

Actually it is my Nikon F3 outfit that is jealous of my recently acquired R8, 19mm Elmarit, 28mm Elmarit & Leitz small field bag. The F3 with a 20mm was my main camera for twenty plus years & is still my favorite camera having had it recently factory rebuilt & serviced by Nikon. It is in temporary retirement. I was then lured to Canon because of the 16mm-35mm f.2.8 zoom. I love the lens as opposed to carrying around the F3 with moterdrive & three wide angle lenses. I am not so in love with the EOS IV

with its nine buttons, two dials & two off & on switches. The EOS is why I bought the R8

& the superior optics. I had two M series leicas , a M2x & a M4. Although I thought they were beautiful objects, I found I simply can't relate to viewfinder cameras.

Good to hear you speak with warmth regarding your guitars & not referring to them as tools although many musicians would refer to them as an "axe".

The pic "Raae Bros.,Detroit " (just noticed the title is misspelled) on my web site was shot with the M4 & a 35mm f 1.4 Summilux. Page 107 in "The Making Of A Collection"

Sincerely,

Michael
