chris_livsey Posted July 29, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a "go to" wide shooter, 35mm on film 28mm on M8 but use 50mm & 90mm when required who also wears and shoots with glasses. I have found, not surprisingly, that the 1.25 magnifier improves my focus accuracy at these longer focal lengths. My film body is a M6 but I am looking to expand the stable and wonder if a .58 would suit me more with the 1.25 as a boost ? The query is, not having a shelf full of various bodies, does the addition of the 1.25 to the .58 give the same view as the "pure" 0.72 ? And of course likewise the .72 to the .85. Obviously the magnification is correct but does the eye relief etc change and thus alter the appearance and position within the frame of the frame lines when comparing "pure" to magnified ? kenneth Posted July 31, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2008 Chris, like you, I am an M6 user who wears glasses and I mainly use 35mm/ 50mm/ and 75mm focal length lenses. My M6 is a 0.72 and the image and focusing seems fine. I must say it is far superior to SLR, namely on an FM2n, focusing and now in my more senior years, is advantageous
thomasw_ Posted August 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2008 .....The query is, not having a shelf full of various bodies, does the addition of the 1.25 to the .58 give the same view as the "pure" 0.72 ? And of course likewise the .72 to the .85. .... I used a magnifier on a .58 MP and I found it was not the same as the .72 MP, being with less of a range of vision. I think it depends on how well you can focus your eye and adjust that focus to different angles from a point; for me it was just not as clear as looking through an unobstructed "pure" vf. chris_livsey Posted August 1, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2008 Kenneth- More senior years a common affliction Thomas - That is as I suspected, but we live in hope. This could mean a two body set up Thanks to both.
Guest kalokeri Posted August 1, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2008 Wearing glasses I prefer the 0.59 magnification for 35mm and 50mm lenses, but though it´s difficult to focus with longer lenses I added a second body with 0.72 magnification - it´s a M2, so there was no choice. Two bodies with different magnification are great. If you can afford it, think about one M6 or MP with 0.85 - if mainly for 90mm - and one with 0.58 - mainly for 35mm. That would be a perfect pair, especially if you found the frame for 50mm in the 0.85 useable. I wouldn´t go for 0.58 with the magnifier for the same reasons thomasw_ wrote. Thomas I will indeed think, maybe even dream about that combo. It will need the two w's to work though. Wallet and Wife. Thanks for posting
