Well I was all for buying a Voigtlander VM 35 1.2 Nockton after Id read good reviews and seen the price at £495 inc VAT at Robert Whites(UK) in Amateur Photographer 19th July.

Imagine my surprise when ringing them to find the price is now £746. I know prices are going up on some things. Just wished Id bought it 2 weeks ago.

Anybody else seeing substantial price rises on items, or know where I might get this lens cheaper.

Thanks for the info. Because of warrenty issues and shipping not sure I would buy from abroad.

Now Im wondering if I would be better off getting a used leica 35mm M 1.4 non asph. It would not be far off the same price. Anybody any thoughts on that?

One of the issues I have is flare, currently i have a voigtlander 35 1.7 which has proved a good lens apart from the flare when shooting into or close to the light.

The CV 35/1.2 is reputed to be very resistant to flare.

Voigtlaender - Nokton 35 mm

list that lens for 999 Euros and

https://www.leicashop.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=36_53_57&language=en&sort=products_sort_order&page=2

800 Euros, VAT excluded and 900 Euros:

https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/voigtlaender-35mm12-nokton-chrome-p-2721.html

I read lens is limited to 300 pieces worldwide, so no wonder such prices, double compared to 35mm f1,4 Nokton...

They are at $999.95US at B&H, up from $879US.

All due to the U.S. dollar being worth marginally more than Charmin these days (thanks to the machinations of the billionaires who run the world and the political sock puppets that they own ). GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I had one & sold it about a year ago - DUMB, DUMB, DUMB move!!! :(

New law at my house: Anything that says "Leica" on it or fits on anything that says "Leica" on it NEVER gets sold or traded!

Go ye and do likewise, bretheren....

I have one - just back from a service with Malcolm Taylor.

A bit soft wide open and highlights literally have a halo, stopped down a little it's a good performer.

It's far smaller than the Voigtlander. I'll have it with me on the group get together at Morecambe this Sunday - I realise that's a bit of a trek just to look at a lens.

Whenever I see one of these "ohmigod the price has gone up on [insert as applicable]" threads I always wonder how long it was available at the lower price. In this case the lens was introduced to the market five years ago. How much has the price moved in the past lustrum? If it was held for a significant proportion of that time then it is hardly unreasonable.

Regards,

Bill

Bill, I think the Robert White price recently dipped and has now risen.

Back to the 35mm pre-ASPH Summilux. This lens gets a bad rap. I used to own one and sold it, now I've bought another. Here's full frame and 100% magnification from my latest sample at f1.4. Not a great shot, but it may give an indication of the 'look' of the lens. Neither image has had any sharpening.

Here's an example of the glow that you can get from a pre-ASPH 35 Summilux

And another (both wide open, btw)

I had one for a few months, but the glow was a bit too much for my taste, so I "swapped" it for a Summicron. If I am feeling flush one day n the future I might think about buying one back

Thankyou all for your thoughts and the info on the Leica 35mm m1.4. Very interested to hear about the "glow". Im relatively new to the Leica world and need to understand the characteristics of the differant lenses. Maybe even at the higher price the CV could still be a good buy for me, as the glow is not really to my taste at this time.

Unfortunatly this weekend Morcambe would be out, not too far from Huddersfield though.

I agree prices do have to go up on occasion, the shock was having it happen to me just when id got the cash.

Steve,

Yep I saw the referance to the M8, so will bear that in mind if I ever go down that route. Although it will be the Nikon D700 first after all the initial bugs are ironed out:eek:

Monday update:

Why do people advertise on the web that they have something when they dont!

"No problem i havnt one in stock but will get one from Robert Whites in 2 days".. "Ohh do you have the silver one your advertising then".. "no we dont.."

Needless to say when they checked with Rober Whites they removed the silver one from thier site and put the price up from £495 to £746 for the other.. which they still dont hold in stock.

I suppose I would do the same if I thought I could get one quickly.. just have to make sure I keep checking the price.
