Any rumor about M9?

In any case they better do something. Apparently Nikon is readying a 10MP P&S, with the APS sensor from the D60 and perhaps a fixed prime lens. I could see them selling these for well under $1000. Maybe this is the rumored Nikon RF...

I'm not sure you are comparing like with like, rather it's similar to in film days when there were 35mm p&s cameras galore that weren't in direct competition with the M6/7.

It would however be tempting to have a camera like that, but as backup to the main camera IMHO.

IAnd if some of the electronics were simplified (no jpeg, no lens recognition, no electronic wind,) - would any of that be able to impact the price?

I'd think you need jpeg to appeal to any kind of non-specialist market. There are lots of people who want to share their photos, or get them printed, without having to get their hands dirty in Photoshop or similar.

I very much doubt the Nikon RF would be priced around $1k - more like starting around 2,5 at the very least, if it ever actually makes an appearance (which I doubt more and more).

Apparently the camera is akin to the Sigma DP-1 and not a digital Nikon SP. Basically a highend point and shoot with an APS sensor, autofocus lens and lots of manual controls. Nikon could sell something like this for under $1000. They would have to, because they would be competing with their own cameras (D60 etc) and everyone else.

My thoughts were also that the sensor crop would be 1.5 instead. And if some of the electronics were simplified (no jpeg, no lens recognition, no electronic wind,) - would any of that be able to impact the price?

I think Leica needs this type of camera - it brings new people into the M-system. I came in after falling in love with a Dlux2. Many more like me out there who don't know what Leica has to offer (other than prices out of their reach)...

I agree.

If Leica made a digital CL, even with a good APS size sensor, I would buy one.

I would be even more thrilled if they made some fast APS primes that were more compact and cheaper than the standard M glass. I also wouldn't care if every single M lens that was ever made didn't work on it. That's what the M8 is for (almost).

With the arrival of the DP-1 and Canon G9 a lot of people were seriously questioning the purchase of an M8. Neither of these cameras are a real replacement for an M8, but in many cases they meet the challenge to a large extend.

If Nikon could manage to deliver a really good APS sensor based compact, with autofocus AND manual controls, a lot of people would be looking at it very seriously instead of an M8. Think of it as a digital Contax G2 with a fixed lens.

I've been waiting for M9 for about one year, any rumor/news about it? If it can't show up this Sept, I probably will get an M8 then.

BTW, Leica is offering test drive program in N.A., but actually dealer have to pay to be apart of it, that's really sucks; there's no dealer in Vancouver or BC offer this program.

:(

Your post is the most current rumor about the M9. I heard, a few months ago, that one was recovered by the Air Force outside of Roswell and is being kept at a secret military base in Nevada. Only a rumor though.
