macpaladin Posted July 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) While I have been quietly waiting for the R10 to materialize, I have a Mamyia 645AFD with assorted lenses gathering dust. I purchased my R9/DMR because of uncertainties of the future of medium format camera in general and Mamyia in particular. And now, PhaseOne has announced the P65+. It is the first full frame 645 medium format back and produces 60 megapixels images. It cost starts at about US $39,990 and will produce 360MB 16 bit files. In its press release PhaseOne also mentions "scaleable pixel and file size" which apparently means that this back has the ability to provide variable resolutions. Since the P65+ incorporates a proprietary sensor co-developed between Phase One and Dalsa, this chip and technology will be exclusive to Phase One. Of further note, PhaseOne's announcement followed on the heals of Hasselblad's announcement of a 50 Megapixel back. And, Digital PhotoPro current issue has an article titled "The Fall And Rise Of Medium Format". Now, if I could only win the lottery I could afford both.
