georg Posted July 14, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2008 The production of Leica/Zeiss/Schneider/Rodenstock is more sophisticated, here is a little link showing small videos of Schneider: Blick hinter die Kulissen, Jos. Schneider Optische Werke GmbH They use CNC-polishing-machines, and the mechanical parts are also NC-machined. They also polish by using one machine for one lens at one time! It's strange that the company shown in the video uses machines that polish many lens surfaces at once, that's more typical for mass-production with higher tolerances!? But I don't know how long it takes to produce one typical Leica-lens? It would be great if Leica would upload some production-videos on their site!
