tbracher Posted July 15, 2008 Author Share #21 Posted July 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all for your help. After a lot of back and forth I've decided to go with the Digi3! (ok, in fact with the L1)... I am excited and think that with your help I've made a good decision. I will put my thoughts on the L1 when I get it next week. Thank you all again, Todd
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Hi tbracher, Take a look here Digilux 3 or V-Lux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tbracher Posted July 25, 2008 Author Share #22 Posted July 25, 2008 So first impression. I will be using it full time next week to give the L1 a proper workout... but I have so say I am pleased so far with the L1. the build quality is amazing. Yes, it is a chunk of camera, but that is what I love about it. You were all right with all of your suggestions. The kit lens is ok, but I ordered the 25mm 1.4 Summilux and can't wait. Just the FEEL of the camera allows me to capture images I can't with the d-lux smaller sized camera. The image quality to be honest is as expected. Not great at lower light, but that is no surprise. I think with the new lens and some practice I will find my way around that. Sort of silly, but I noticed there is no film mode, no big deal but could have been nice. In the end it is not probably something I would be using with this sort of a camera anyway. A bit disappointed with the dark and small viewfinder, and to be picky the placement of the shutter release is a bit awkward though no big deal. The live view is alright, yes noisy but I actually like it..the mechanical quality is what I was looking for. If the viewfinder was better then I would never use it. (the live view) I also feel that the display is not as bright (or at least not as accurate) to what is being captured. I am not sure if that is always the case, but in lower light the display shows VERY dark images however not when captured. One sort of concern for me is how slow the panning around an image was to verify the focus after the image is recorded. I have a Extreme III sandisk card which I believe to be very fast but when you shoot a high quality image the panning of the image is annoyingly slow... So with that being said, I LOVE THIS CAMERA. Ok, I wish I can sort these little things, but I also just wanted to share my thoughts. I found in all my research that so much was weighed on the pixel count, sensor, iso, but very few comments on the feel in had. Does it get you going when you shoot... does it turn you on to use it. That to me was 50% of the purchase and this camera nails it. The Canon's and Nikon's are probably 'better' spec camera's but they completely lack appeal and joy to use for me. It is not ONLY about the image it is also about the experience and fun. The L1 knows that and if you appreciate that I would highly recommend it. --davez Posted September 1, 2008 Share #24 Posted September 1, 2008 I have a VLUX-1 and enjoy it very much. I've had it now for 1 1/2 years and I am still learning about it. While at the camera store I noticed several training DVDs for several of the most popular cameras (Canon, Nikon) as a way to become even more familiar with the camera's capabilities. Is anyone aware of such a DVD for the VLUX? I would really like to purchase it. If not, has anyone found any other DVD that is close enough to be of value for a VLUX owner? Thanks. --davez
Jannetje Posted September 2, 2008 Share #25 Posted September 2, 2008 Hi davez, Never saw dvd's for leica. I saw many books about popular canon and nikon but never such a thing for a v-lux or a digilux. But if i am mistaken i would be glad to be informed about it. Good luck with the V-lux, Jannetje
netdog Posted September 3, 2008 Share #26 Posted September 3, 2008 The kit (Digilux 3 / DMC-L1) lens is ok... Is okay? I never thought that I could live with a zoom, but Leica proved me wrong. The kit lens, but all accounts, is extraordinary, and my experience certainly bears that out.
