Guest jimmy pro Posted July 22, 2008 Share #101 Posted July 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The R10 must be aimed at new users to be a succes, Disagree. First of all the comparison to the DMR is irrelevent accept to the 5K people who've got one, and a portion of them will buy the R10 because they'll make themselves believe it's better because they just have to have one. The M8 may have appealed to new users (or M users from a while back who had defected meantime to Canon/Nikon DSLR or some interrim pocket digital) but I bet my bottom dollar very, very, veeeeeeerrrrrrry few DMR's were sold to previous nonusers of R gear. Leica isn't gonna grab more than a handfull of Canon/Nikon users with an R10 unless it has all the bells and whistles, and so much IQ (and I mean real stuff that unbiased, objective, non-brand-fanatics can see) that it overpowers what will sure to be a pricetag that'd choke a horse. But the catch-22 is that kind of technology (the features, not the IQ) will piss off the loyal old guard, so it could be a wash, or at worst a gamble that tanks bigtime. Whatever Leica does with reguards to the R10, they'd be smart to figure on selling no more then the same # of them that they sold of the DMR, and much less if they mess with AF and a new lensmount.
